Alrighty...I'm a little surprised this guy is still around actually, since his name is on one of the most important trophies in the NHL today. The Bawlf Blawkhawks would like to select Art Ross in the position of defenceman

Born in Naughton, Ontario, Ross grew up in Montreal where he played junior hockey. In 1905, he joined the Brandon Elks in Manitoba and in 1907 won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Kenora Thistles. For the next season, he returned to Montreal to play for the Montreal Wanderers and again won the Stanley Cup with his new team in 1908. Ross played in the National Hockey Association in 1910 as a member of the Haileybury Comets. He returned to the Wanderers for the next four seasons, then played for the Ottawa Senators in 1914–15 and 1915–16 before returning to the Wanderers to finish his career. When the Wanderers joined the newly-created NHL for the inaugural 1917–18 season, Ross only played three games before a fire destroyed the Wanderers' arena, forcing the team to fold.
He was a fearless and rugged defenceman and never shied away from a fight. One of his most legendary was with Minnie McGiffen of the Toronto Blueshirts in which both players were arrested for assault and referee Cooper Smeaton almost got arrested.
He was also a fighter for players' rights. In 1910, he opposed the NHA's imposition of a salary cap of $5,000 per team. He did the same thing in 1915 and was banned from the NHA. The league's owners, though, thought that they had acted too harshly and reinstated Ross.

Team Slapshot needs to add some more nastiness and toughness to their lineup. We'll proudly select for our RW#3 the man with the golden elbows!

Harry "Punch" Broadbent

A multidimensional star, Harry "Punch" Broadbent was as talented as he was tough. He was an artist with the puck, at times scoring at will, but he also gained a notorious reputation for using his elbows to make a point. He could dance around or skate over an opponent as the situation demanded. Many considered Broadbent to be one of the first true power forwards of the game. And fame would likely have been far greater had he not lost three years in the prime of his career to military service during World War I.
Broadbent was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1962.

Cyclones are pleased to select the premier defensive center, Guy Carbonneau

At 40, he was the oldest player in the league in 1999-2000, but he had defined himself years before as being the finest two-way player in the game, modeled after teammate and Selke Trophy winner Bob Gainey.
Carbonneau came out of the QMJHL, and stepped into a Montreal team on the downswing from a four-Cup dynasty in the late 1970s. He established himself as both a 20-goal scorer and the man who played against the other team's best player every night. During his 13 years with Montreal, he won the Cup twice, in 1986 and 1993.

In the '93 Final, the Habs faced Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings, and in game one the "Great One" had a goal and two assists and the Kings won 4-1. Carbo approached coach Jacques Demers and requested he be allowed to shadow number 99 the rest of the way. Montreal won the next four games.

He served as Montreal captain, won three Selke trophies with the team, but was traded for youth in 1994 in the form of Paul Kariya's University of Maine centreman, Jim Montgomery. Carbonneau spent one season in St. Louis before he was traded to Dallas, and there he won his third Cup in 1999.
Carbonneau played one more season with the Stars before retiring after the team lost in the 2000 Stanley Cup Final to the New Jersey Devils. After retiring during the off-season, Carbonneau joined the Montreal Canadiens as its Supervisor of Prospect Development before he was named part of the coaching staff in November of 2000. Carbonneau spent two seasons with the Canadiens before he accepted the position as the special assistant to the general manager of the Dallas Stars in the summer of 2002.

with our 15th round pick, Punk's Puckers select,

At C

Rod Brind'Amour

Born in Ottawa but raised in Prince Rupert and Campbell River, British Columbia, Brind'Amour was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (ninth overall) of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Brind'Amour played the next season at Michigan State University. Brind'Amour became well-known for working out constantly, earning the nickname "Rod the Bod". During his time at Michigan State, Brind'Amour would go from a game directly into the weight room where he would undertake a strenuous workout. His coach at the time said that Brind'Amour's workouts became so intense that they would turn the lights out on him, and when that failed to work, they would padlock the room.[1]
At the conclusion of the collegiate hockey season, Brind'Amour joined the Blues during the 1989 NHL playoffs. He made his debut in game 5 of the Blues' division semifinals against the Minnesota North Stars and scored a goal on his first shot. In his first full NHL season, Brind'Amour scored 27 points in the Blues' first 24 games and finished third on the Blues with 26 goals. Brind'Amour was selected to the 1989-90 All-Rookie Team.
Brind'Amour was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers with Dan Quinn for Murray Baron and Ron Sutter following the 1990-91 season. Following his return from an ankle injury during the 1999-2000 season, he was dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes along with Jean-Marc Pelletier in exchange for Keith Primeau.
Brind'Amour was one of Philadelphia's most popular players. He spent his years in Philadelphia as an alternate captain to Kevin Dineen and then Eric Lindros, filling in as captain and wearing the "C" when Lindros was out of the lineup. It was there that he started his reputation of being one of the best shutdown centres of the NHL. This has culminated into a Selke Trophy awarded to him as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 and again in 2007.[2]
During his stint with Philadelphia he was considered one of the league's 'ironmen', with a consecutive games streak of 484 played, a Flyers franchise record. Additionally, he was one-third of the "BBC Line" featuring Bates Battaglia and Erik Cole during the Carolina HurricanesStanley Cup run in 2002. Brind'Amour was named Captain of the Hurricanes before the 2005-06 season.
He won his first Stanley Cup on June 19, 2006 with the Hurricanes, defeating the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7, 3-1.
In December 2006, he scored his 1000th career point and in February 2007, he recorded his 400th career goal.
On February 14, 2008 against Pittsburgh, Brind'Amour tore his ACL in the first period ending his 2007-2008 season. He had surgery at Rex Hospital the next morning.[3]

How did Ratelle last this long? He should have been picked many rounds earlier.

Punk gets a great pick late in the draft.

I'm pretty sure Aeneas already selected him. I will see if I can find it.

Yup, post #325, 10th round. Ratelle was taken by Aeneas some time ago. CMPunk, you are still on the clock.

lol, I think you even used the exact same picture

Had he not scored last night, he wouldn't be on the list. You have to admit that 8 straight with a goal is damn impressive for a defenseman.

Team Modern Era selects MIKE GREEN.

Questionable pick, sure. Could he go down as one of the greatests when it's all said and done? Great start.

Sorry for the great delay in my picks, Cyclone was right.

I will pick a goalie now.

Team "Give Blood, play hockey" is proud to select Pelle Lindbergh.

Not too many stats to give out. I am sure you are all familiar with why.

In his one and only full NHL season, he was a first team allstar and won the Vezina trophy.

You can only imagine what might have been for him personally and for the Flyers had he lived.

Lindbergh was fantastic. He was posthumously voted to start the all-star game by the fans. I got a Flyers jersey just because of him.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Rouge could step in with a pick now if ready with one. CMPunk took Rod the Bod at 11:14 pm on the 14th and Aeneas's pick was a make up pick. So 15 hrs for Tiger was 2:14 pm on the 15th (MIA) and Super would've been 5:14 am today.

I think Rouge can go....stupid aliens, always abducting fellow draft-mates.

The Beantown Bruins are proud to select from Chelyabinsk, USSR, Defense man, Sergi Gonchar

Gonchar was the 1st round pick, 14th overall, of the Washington Capitals in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. He began his North American career in 1994, suiting up for the Capitals' AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates. He made his NHL debut, with the Capitals, on February 7, 1995 against the Buffalo Sabres. He would appear in 31 games total during the lockout-shortened 1994–95 season. The following year, in his first full-length campaign in the NHL, Gonchar would tally 41 points, showing his potential as an effective offensive defenceman.

After 57 and 67-point (tied for a career high) seasons in 2000–01 and 2002–03 respectively, Gonchar was named to the Second All-Star Team both seasons.

On March 3, 2004, in his ninth season with the Capitals, Gonchar was traded to the Boston Bruins. Finishing the season with Boston, he would tally 58 points, leading all league defencemen. Between 2000 and 2004, Gonchar recorded more points than any other defenceman, with 74 goals and 241 points.

In 2006–07, his second season with Pittsburgh, Gonchar tied a career-high with 67 points. In addition to his on-ice duties for the Penguins.

I don't know if winning the Lady Bying is necessarily a good thing, especially for a defenceman

Damn you Superflyer!!!

Great, underrated pick IMHO. His absence from the Penguins lineup is probably the biggest reason they are where they are now (out of the playoffs.)

BTW, I've added details for my last pick of Harry Howell finally. (With a little local trivia)

this thread has gotten slower than Paris Hilton trying to figure out differential calculus.

Rouge, FanIn80, and Aeneas are all up

(Aeneas, you picked Lindbergh as your 14th rounder, but still need a 15th rounder).

I'm guessing this is just an indication that I am the only one here without a life.

I was just thinking, Aeneas knew I had a Lindbergh jersey and he selected him....I also had a Joey Kocur jersey, could that be his next pick??

Left Wing Keith Tkachuk

He has over 500 goals you know.

NHL Totals
1109 517 501 1018 2143

You'll notice a rather large amount of penalty minutes. He'll retire well within the top 25 of that category. One year he scored 52 goals and had 228 penalty minutes. That's pretty good.
