I wonder if they are going to pick up right where they left of, or do a 6 months later kind of deal...

Well I thought that episode was 'meh' but then again I didn't expect it to be fantastic. Hopefully this episode got all of the "boring" stuff out of the way and got all the "fallout" out of the way.
From what I have read, by episode 3 we get Dexter to kill someone again (properly), so I think the next episode will continue in the premiere's path.

ya it wasn't a great episode but I think it got most of the stuff out of the way that needed to happen
its really setting up Quinn this year to be exactly like Doakes in season 2 with him seemingly wanting to investigate Dexter

Didn't hate it. You always need an episode or 2 a season to set up future events. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Probably. It's easy enough to foist Harrison on to Deb when he's out killing but the two brats will probably go live with their grandparents. After all, Dexter's not related to them.

Yeah, it wasn't the greatest premiere in the world, but given the finale of S4, it was an episode that had to be done. As I said, I've seen the first three episodes, but I'm afraid it picks up in Episode 3. So some people may not like E2.
Back to last night, any Six Feet Under fans not find the scene with the Funeral Director hilarious?? I loved it when Dexter said, "how do these people do that?? Act like they care?"
I'm also surprised that some people here aren't happy with the show dissecting Dexter's character the way that they are. You want to see more Dexter killing off "bad guys". Come on, we've seen that story time and time again. To me, when Dexter kills off a random dude, it gets kinda boring. Last season worked best, because we all knew he was gonna kill Trinity, but the fact that he wanted to learn from him first was fantastic. Dexter's family is what kept him normal in everyone's eyes and that was essential to him. Now that the family is gone, we may see a different side, and I think we already are.

I'm surprised people disliked it so much.
It would have been a serious cop out by the writers if Dexter ran away. I'm glad they toyed with it, because it's a very realistic reaction, but the little human moments have always been what this show is about.
If we ever have a season where Dexter gives up and runs, it will more than likely be the last (imo). Not only because he'll eventually get caught, but also because a soulless lead won't draw viewers over the long run.

I didn't hate it, like someone above mentioned; after the ending to season 4 this episode had to happen the way it did.
I'm not sure what to expect from this season. I liked season 1 where they had the Ice-Truck killer, but Dexter was also going out and killing people. Hopefully they have another "big baddy" but have Dexter returning to his old self (which I don't see happening).

I was hoping to get rid of the ackwardness of this episode they would have just jumped ahead a few months. The whole Dexter being a suspect thing is kinda annoying and hopefully that is dropped quickly.
I hope the main thrust of this season is whether Dexter will try to be human again vs using humanity as a cover for his crimes. As Rita only died because he wanted to become a better human rather than just wear a mask.
