Pretty sure McLaren went all of 2024 and this year without a mechanical retirement until today (at least in the Grands Prix). You don't want to go into 'prevent' mode too early, but Oscar seems pretty well suited to be cool and calculating from here on out without sacrificing pace.
They obviously won't finish 1-2 for the rest of the season (though they were on track for their 5th straight today, which would have tied the record), but assuming they did (and ignoring sprints), Lando would have to win 7 out of 9 to end up ahead by 1 point.
Australia (9th) and Monaco (3rd) are the only times Oscar has finished more than 1 spot behind Lando this year. Lando just has Bahrain (3rd), Saudi (4th), Canada, and today, but was also well back in two of the sprints. Hard to see it, but just one DNF for Oscar likely puts things back under 10 points.
Can't get a clean image link, but this made me laugh (again...I think I've seen it a few times now and it never fails)
