No surprise who was stirring it up right at the start and nowhere to be seen when it kicked off proper.

Quote:
Did Luis Suarez try and bite someone again? Uruguay forward embroiled in ugly Copa America scenes.

Luis Suarez sparked ugly scenes after the Copa America semi-final between Uruguay and Colombia on Wednesday night, after getting into a physical altercation with Colombia's Miguel Borja.

Columbia booked their spot in the Copa America final with a 1-0 win over Uruguay, with Jefferson Lerma scoring the game's only goal. But while the South American nation celebrated their victory, Suarez wasn't best pleased with Borja.

As the 37-year-old approached Borja, a clip shows Suarez sticking his head into the Colombian's shoulder, in what appears like an attempt at another bite. Suarez then walks away to congratulate James Rodriguez, who had sunk to his knees, before returning to Borja and sparking ugly scenes after the match.

Both sets of players and coaching staff clashed, with Suarez then seen to throw a punch at one of Colombia's back room members.

It's the tracking harness that pretty much all soccer players will wear now to monitor heartrate, pace, distance covered, etc.

Canadian team must be tired. Can we play the kids tomorrow? Maybe cap McGill?

Game is meaningless

No it's not as many of the staff and player alluded to.

Increased $$ for third fora program that can take every bit they can get.
Huge boost to their rankings.
This is probably the only chance any of the players will have at a Copa America medal. Might seem meaningless to you but a huge deal for the players.

Nah not meaningless. 3rd place game in the second largest competition you can play in? With the soccer world eyes on you?

Canada is unlikely to get to this opportunity again anytime soon. Most meaningful game they will play for almost 2 years, probably more because WC group games should be a foregone conclusion and will be expected wins.

Let the kids play and get capped against the likes of St Kitts or Curacao.

Plus some more prize fund and funding for the CSA (or CSB).

Furthermore, beating these biting, diving, greasy bastards from Uruguay would be very meaningful.

Well, we all know the South Americans are 'hot blooded' they just wanted to check it and see.

Although in my opinion...where was that passion during the match? When it mattered?

Really liked Herdman as a personality and really like Marsch. Different people and personalities for sure.

Part of this talk is a rallying cry, but most of it is embedded in truth and things he wants to make the general public aware of.

It doesn't seem like any Uruguay players will be suspended. Sure, they may thought they had reason to, but they left the field. If that was Canadians going up there we would have half the team suspended.

I have no doubt Argentina and other top teams had probably some preferred treatment on the field by intimidated officials, and also off the field from organizers as well, that Canada didn't get and various other things, and Marsch knows that's the way it works in the soccer world, especially for minnows like Canada... but he also knows he has to bring this up publicly so that more know about this, and maybe we in organizing 2026 play some of the tricks behind the scenes to our advantage then as opposed to trying to make it fair and equal for all.

My worry is that when Marsch fully gets settled into the role, he will run into some of the same funding and political complexities that Herdman ran into, and he doesn't seem like the type who will quietly accept them...Herdman sucked it up and used it is as team motivation that even their own association didn't believe in them to be able to properly fund the camps and tracksuits etc, where Marsch will probably not be so quiet.

That said, Herdman and that team wasn't supposed to have success and get to the WC and that spotlight exposed the previously un talked about CSB agreement etc, and the CSA and CSB were caught with their pants down on a number of fronts due to the unexpected qualifying success for 2022. With 2026 they knew then, and know now, that the prestige of a WC would allows them to get some more temporary funding and sponsorship for the lead up for 2026.

Part of the role of Canadian soccer manager is to not just defend your team like Marsch is doing here for inequalities within Canada place and treatment in the soccer world, but also, sadly to have advocate to our own country and own association, for the team and it's players...not sure he fully realizes that yet, so will be interesting post tournament over the next 12 months as he gets settled, how this relationship all goes.

CONMEBOL says that they need more time to investigate the incident and to "fully understand" if the players were provoked, thus there will be no bans handed out until then.

As far as top teams and top stars getting preferential treatments - of course they do. Look at the Oilers and McDavid. At least Argentina gets the job done
