Lol. For some reason I thought he was making 5.5? Yeah at 4.9 still overpaid. No way he would ever get less than 4, with what he brings. Term could be a big issue too in the last two years... Once again a ufa tax.

You said before that he was “worth $4.5-5 million”.

The guy you replied to literally addressed his thought about the Tanev signing in the Signing Chris Tanev thread recently, the thread is still on the main page.

The nerve of some people to passive-aggressivey call someone out for something they've already addressed themselves?

A six year contract pretty much explains why Coleman is here. If the rest of the bottom nine forwards play up to their contract to the extent that Coleman does, this team goes deep in the playoffs.

I don't think you know what passive-aggressive means.

Coleman is a great signing. Not flashy but he gets the job done. It was always going to be the latter part of the season and the playoffs where we would see the value of the signing.

Backlund, making crow eaters out of October-December nay sayers since, like, 2014.

I've always been happy to defend Coleman! I thought his signing made a lot of sense.
Tanev has been outstanding in every respect. No complaints here. Certainly worlds better than I anticipated.

The last few years of Coleman's contract are going to be roughhhh.
But it's nowhere near as bad as how poorly the Hyman, RNH and Nurse contracts are going to age.

I think thats a win then if we have him near the end based on recent track record ( raymond, brouwer, neal).. you have to over do term in free agency...

Yep, as long as the team wins with him on the roster, that's all that matters. He has intangibles and is a proven winner.

5+4 in his last 10 ... same numbers he put up in the first 31. Glad the points are coming for him lately. I think he's been really solid all season, but with our lack of secondary scoring it's vital that guys like him are chipping in. Didn't seem to get the bounces early in the season.
I really like him as a player in general, just a sound player who plays the game the right way. Sure, he's overpaid a bit and the final 1-2 years of the contract aren't going to be pretty, but that's UFA for you. Certainly one of the better UFA signings in the last few years, in addition to Markstrom and Tanev.

I think if there's a recovery and an expanding salary cap, and the player keeps his skating and play away from the puck it can't be that bad.
I mean what's an average 7-8 forward making now? Looks like about $1.9M, meaning say $2.2M in say 2024.
At $4.9M he may be in the range of $1M to $1.5M over paid no? And that's if the offence dries up but he can play a middle six role, kill penalties and not get in trouble defensively.

Apart from the points he has been so consistent game in game out with his effort. I don't know if he'll be something we can move out but even having him around rookies we move in may be something positive for the franchise.
Complete opposite signing from guys like Brouwer and Neal.
