Never know. Early goal in extra time could mean fireworks.

Considering they have to beat Belgium/Portugal and then France, probably not. They’ll get blasted if they play like this.

No it's done. 90 minutes only.
You could have had 1 goal in OT for even money.

well I'm six beers in, so there's that. Still proud, forcing OT is a great feat in itself.

Why doesn't Austria play like this from minute 1?

They don't have the depth. If you have to ride your starting 11 for the whole match you gotta consider energy conservation, you can't be going end to end. Italy won tonight because they had a significantly better bench and it showed in ET.

because Arnautovic is a holy cow for some reason, even though everybody knows Kalajdzic is a much better striker.

Not outright desperate attack but more positive. Like I want to see the Czech be positive tomorrow.

It's SOP in these tournaments as we know. I think we all wish the lesser teams would give it more of a go, but it's all about avoiding conceding first and foremost.

Italy got lucky. Full marks to Austria who worked their tails off and in the end it was Italy’s squad depth that got them through.
Need to keep the lineup from the first two games to start, bring Verratti on if you need some creativity.
Really with his fitness level Verratti can only give you 45 minutes, so use him as a super sub.

I think they played down to (or perhaps below) the level of their competition today. I'm assuming they won't make the same mistake again.

It's far more likely they were simply in a cakewalk group (the team who came second got annihilated today to reinforce that) and got a touch overrated after the group stage. They are a good team, but not unbeatable, and they have a very tough path to the final. France and Belgium are absolutely better at their best then Italy is.

I don't think I could be any prouder tonight. Our team left it all out there, and I felt they played extremely well. Never thought they'd be able to force OT and do such a great job against a superior team. That's all I could ask for ... well done boys!

Italy, while not at their best, was clearly the better team overall. Give full marks to Austria, but other than the offside goal, I don’t think they had very many quality chances (they forced one good save). Italy hit the crossbar and forced 3 really good saves. Italy need to be better for next game. Hoping Chiellini will be ready to go.
