not sure on comparison with other sports (although I guess at least 1/3 of the Jays regulars are sons of MLBers)
suspect its a combination of
1. Genetics (strong), probably from both sides of the family
2. Opportunity (both that the family is more likely to put that kid in hockey as opposed to another sport, and yes- I'll say it- sons of NHLers at least a little (or more) likely to get postive tiering and exposure from a young age
3. financial means to move this all along
4. healthy competition (in the case of siblings or cousins growing up and pushing each other)
5. (I think this is the lowest reason, but I will still throw it out there). name recognition in isolation

So basically a smaller talent pool considering hockey is still somewhat of a niche sport, dominated by wealthy people that can pay for the training and all the travel?
But I also find the number of cousins interesting. Just off the top of my head, Horvat and Konecny, Lindholm and Jarnkrok, Phill Kessel and David Moss, Wendel Clark, Joey Kocur, Chandler Stephenson and Barry Melrose (a four-way), Keith Tkachuk and Tom Fitzgerald, Jaros and Cernak....
I am sure there are tonnes more.

I like Ben McCartney at F or Billy Constantinou at D with the Flames' last pick here, if still available.

He should have been gone already.
The guy scored 7 goals and had 8 points at the Hlinka, including two goals against a good Canada team and followed it up with a great Draft season.
Who cares if he’s 5’7” he shouldn’t have lasted past the 4th round. Even if he says he’s not coming to North America I’d still have taken a flyer in the 5th or 6th just to own his rights.
And Carolina continues their smart management and takes him here.

Eric Tulsky fingerprints all over the draft.
Probably the best analytics focused hockey mind out there.

Ronan Seeley still there. Left handed D, but at this point you work out overloading a position later.

Going back a couple years now they've been murderously good at talent identification and acquisition imo.
