This is what I am wearing today at the office and similar to what I wear when going out socially as well. Dressing is pretty simple, especially for a man. For me I think my plan is to just get things that fit you. If you don't know, go dark and plain to be safe. It doesn't matter from where or how much it costs.

Blazer - $100 (Zara - was a full suit but I separated it from the dress pants as the office is casual now)
Skinny Jeans - $20 (Winners sale rack)
Plain long sleeve shirt - $7 (Walmart clearance)
Shoes - $8 (Walmart clearance)
Casio G-Shock GWM5610-1 - $150 (Amazon)

Not bad, I'd rate this about a 7/10 and appreciate the effort.

What I'd like to see more of is some increased contrast between the garments. IMHO, your shirt, jacket and pants are all too close in color, texture and brightness which then places too much attention on your shoes.

Wearing an orphaned suit coat doesn't necessarily 'look bad' its more just 'wrong' - but only a tiny percentage of men would even know the difference. A sport coat in that scenario would add some texture and maybe a bit of pattern to break things up a bit for you.

The shirt would be the easiest upgrade for that outfit. You could have a loud pattern or bright colour which wouldn't overpower things as it's under your jacket but still would add some visual interest.

All in all, you look better than most, but still have some runway for improvements.

That’s fair. I wouldn’t say I’m all that stylish of a person.

Thanks for the feedback! I do notice I tend to wear blues and dark blues 80% of the time. Indeed when I go home, I even hang up the suit jackets at work and go home in a navy members only jacket. It must my safe play since it's still a color while not looking like I'm going to a goth gathering or funeral.

I don't wear bright colors or express myself in terms of shirt colors or patterned suits as I manage people and it's part of trying to remain somewhat conservative in a management role.

I have a ton of orphaned suit jackets as we used to wear suits everyday (I have everything from Christmas party dark red to Obama tan) until covid started which kicked in a casual policy and now not wearing jeans makes you not fit into the corporate culture.

Dressing down whole-cuts is definitely something I used to see during double meat fridays in the downtown Calgary culture and probably where I picked it up.

The French-style blue chore coat (or bleu de travail) is probably my favourite piece of clothing that I own. In fact, I own several iterations of this kind of coat, including this stunning indigo-washed sashiko style Japanese take (https://www.ssense.com/en-ca/men/pro...8aAhQXEALw_wcB)

But for people who want to wear an affordable version of this coat, Banana Republic has a linen/cotton blend on sale for less than $100.

Maybe I'm just crazy but I've been thinking of getting a pair of boots for the Vancouver winters (another pair of boots) and while the usual Alden/Viberg style is always cool, what if I went with something crazy like a pair of cowboy boots?

Yeah, you're crazy.

Just get some hiking boots. The Vibergs are nice but you don't have to spend 1000 dollars on every piece of footwear.

Pairing cowboy boots with jeans and a fatigue jacket would look pretty cool.

Cowboy boots pair with everything, even shorts.

Constant wetness will destroy those boots. If you're going to wear leather in the rain, it should be something much thicker, more like a work or hiking boot.

Cowboy boots are great, but I totally struggle with finding the right pants for them. I wear mostly slim/straights, but all of my pants/jeans are slightly too slim for cowboy boots.

I would love to make them work and pull them off though.

If you are looking for western boots, and ABC is a good choice, a couple other high quality Canadian brands are

https://bouletboots.com

https://www.canadawestboots.com/

I can't help you too much on style though as cowboy boots aren't really my thing (just two pair so far).

Whereas I am now completely into the relaxed/straight trend.

These are all in my regular pants rotation.

Peter12, I have a feeling that you're so incredibly handsome that you're able to pull off any look without any issue. Some of the stuff you post can't be worn by us mortals.

For the rest of us, please don't take style advice from peter12. It's just not going to work for you.

God, I wish.

A fun part of style is getting to experiment with weird combos like cowboy boots and fatigue pants.

This is basically me as well, aside from the jacket and replace most of the Winners/Walmart stuff with Mark's (company discount), no jacket, and Chuck Taylor's.

I'd rather spend my money on bikes.
