If you sign a 5 year deal for 27 million, what do you care?

Why? I still believe it was completely unrealistic for anyone to expect an announcement before the end of the week at the earliest.

Mind you, I also will be only moderately surprised if Gulutzan is not fired.

I get what you're saying but how many other franchises have done the same? Its the old adage, a coach is hired to be fired. Some do it sooner than others or maybe more often than others but I don't think the Flames are worse than any other franchise. In the past 10 years they've fired Keenan & Hartley before their contract expiration date. How many other teams fired 2 coaches in 10 years?

And via that way of thinking, how many coaches looking for work now are concerned over coaching dismissals from more than 10 years ago?

If you don't have a replacement, you might as well keep GG and tell him to replace his assistants.
Did Todd McLellan refuse the Oilers even after they turfed their coaches twice as fast as we have?

Nope. Money talks.

If the Flames are willing to pony up for an elite coach they'll probably be happy to come here.

Fair, but basically my point is its easy to point and say "I want this guy" but the decision has to be mutual, and BT maybe be handcuffed by the Flames being historically cheap on coaching

Timing just feels like it could be an announcement of an extension...

I really hope my gut is wrong on this but i just don’t know when we’ll ever be rid of GG

960 saying that GG will be talking about his trip to Saskatoon, and "maybe" some hockey. So, same stuff as this morning on Hockeycentral at Noon on SNW.

Before Q, the Hawks went though a coach every year for 10 years, except Brian Sutter held on for 3. A total of 8, counting Pulford. For a team with three cup wins, the Pens have gone through coaches a fair bit. 4 coaches in 10 years.

Thanks Gio. I should have said how many teams have fired * only* 2 coaches in 10 years but your example illustrates my point. Flames are probably close to the norm than the exception.

Excellent point. I am just throwing darts at the board and theorizing as to why this team hasn't had an "elite" coach. I am probably wrong with this theory, but still my point is these guys have to want to come here, and there has only been one firing so far right? Maybe someone like AV is waiting to see what other openings there are.

No need for theories. We pretty much haven't hired elite anything (though I was a pretty damn good concessions cook c. 1991) since Fletcher, give or take a Darryl here or there...

Good interview with Gully regardless of desires to see him not coach the Flames any further.

Obviously a good human being who takes community and being apart of it very seriously. Tons of respect on a human level.
