That's my point Peter, prior to Reagan and the rise of the Christian coalition there wasn't anything else, to be fiscally conservative and a hawk was a republican.

I love Trump interviews.
Quote:
"You're a proponent of more nuclear power plants. We have 100 now in the U.S., none of them in our state, why should we have to store the waste 90 miles from here, in a city that draws 40,000,000 tourists a year," asked Snyder.
Trump didn't have an answer prepared, but promised to circle back.
"I'm very friendly with this area. I have the hotel here, I will tell you I'm going to take a look at it because so many people here are talking about it. I'll take a look at it, and the next time you interview me, I'll have an answer," said Trump.
|
Quote:
"Do you worry that a trade war would hurt tourism and your business interests here," asked Snyder.
Trump supported his comments saying, "It will actually help, we're just talking about fairness, not like tough like we're not going to do business. Just tough so the US can make something."
"But what if China said no more visas to go to Las Vegas and stay at Trump Tower," pressed Snyder.
"If China ever did that, and we cut off relationship with China, China would go bust so fast," said Trump.
|
Quote:
As for his performance in the first debate, Trump says he doesn't plan to do a single thing differently during the second one.
"A lot of people said I won the first debate."

Mondale of course famously lost 49 of 50 states. But keep on believing it's a media conspiracy and that the crowds tell the story.

Also KFF you capture the nice start of the Trump nuclear quote, but you have to include how the reporter baits him into looking like a moron. And of course Trump is more than willing to oblige.

A little break from the current cycle for some serious lol's
Quote:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie threatened to "####ing destroy" fellow Republican Monmouth County Freeholder John Curley after Curley called him a "fat ####" in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, according to testimony today from the Bridgegate trial.
The exchange between the governor and the freeholder came up during testimony from former Christie staffer Christopher Stark.
Stark said Curley called him with a "curt" message after Sandy because Curley believed Christie was taking credit for recovery efforts in the aftermath of the 2012 storm, when local elected officials like Curley were doing the work on the ground.
According to Stark's testimony, Curley said, referring to Christie, "Who does that fat #### think he is?"
Stark, a former regional director in the governor’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, said Christie then called Curley to express his displeasure.
"Who the #### do you think you are calling me a fat ####?" Stark testified Christie said. "I'm the ####ing governor of this state."
Christie then told Curley to be at an event in Keansburg the next day or "I will ####ing destroy you" with robo calls to tell Republicans not to vote for him, Stark testified. Curley was seeking reelection in 2012.

Trump's less-than-sterling qualities - his erratic temperament, his dodgy business practices, his racism, his Putin-like strongman inclinations and faux-populist demagoguery, his contempt for the rule of law, his ignorance - is enough to be disqualifying. His convention-speech comment, "I alone can fix it," should make every American shudder. He is, we believe, a danger to the Republic. - Houston Chronicle
Never in the history of American politics has there been a major party candidate with fewer qualifications to be the president. Trump has never held an elective office or had any significant leadership in legislative action. And, despite what an angry electorate might think, the ability to work through the legislative process is a requisite of the job. He isn’t the only person capable of fixing our nation’s problems. He’s not even on the list of those who should try. - Tulsa World
Trump's values are hostile to conservatism. He plays on fear — exploiting base instincts of xenophobia, racism and misogyny — to bring out the worst in all of us, rather than the best. His serial shifts on fundamental issues reveal an astounding absence of preparedness. And his improvisational insults and midnight tweets exhibit a dangerous lack of judgment and impulse control. - Dallas Morning News
This editorial board has been consistent in its criticism of his policies and temperament beginning with the Republican primary. We've condemned his childish insults; offensive remarks to women, Hispanics and African-Americans; and the way he has played on many Americans' fears and prejudices to further himself politically. Trump brands himself as an outsider untainted by special interests, but we see a man utterly corrupted by self-interest. His narcissistic bid for the presidency is more about making himself great than America. Trump tears our country and many of its people down with his words so that he can build himself up. What else are we left to believe about a man who tells the American public that he alone can fix what ails us? - Cincinnati Enquirer
A stunning lack of human decency, empathy and respect. Taken together they reveal a candidate who doesn’t grasp our national ideals. - Arizona Republic
Vengeful, dishonest and impulsive, Trump is no Romney. This is why Hillary Clinton is the safest candidate for voters to choose in a complex world. .
Trump could be our Chávez, our Kirchner. We cannot take that risk. - San Diego Union-Tribune

Hey man, that's just Trump telling it like it is. He's a real master persuader.

Gary Johnson wishes he could have got out of the Aleppo question like that. But yeah Trump went to Nevada, told the people of Nevada they don't know how to say their own state's name, and doesn't know about a pretty important issue in the state. Normally that'd be pretty devastating and would probably end any chance he has of winning the state. We'll see.

Incorrect. The so-called moral coalition has been a thing since Goldwater.

Incorrect. The Moral Majority was founded in the late 70's by Jerry Falwell and Paul Weyrich, which carried Reagan to an epic trouncing of Carter. That would be the same Paul Weyrich who was behind the Heritage Foundation (Coors money) and the American Legislative Exchange Council (Koch money). Goldwater's support came from the fringe right, like the John Birchers and the Ayn Rand set. Goldwater was actually an enemy of the religious right and refused to work with them.

Troutman - Clinton should take those quotes, but preface them each with "hasn't endorsed a Democrat since Christ was a cowboy" type comments, demonstrating they are indeed from either conservative or neutral publications...
Trump continues to demonstrate what a jackass he is on a regular and consistent basis. I'm looking forward to Sunday night.
