Reason: I'm enough of a nerd that I don't need people thinking that I'm even nerdier than I am.

It's in a similar vein, but without the hardcore RPG element. There's limited character customization, and the combat system is done with 6 sided dice that have symbols representing "hits" and "shields".
I'd call it more Diablo than Baldur's Gate.

Quarriors! Soft Launches in Canada and NZ
Last Wednesday night there was a surprise launch of Quarriors! on the App Store. The only catch is that you need to live in Canada or New Zealand to actually download it. Turns out it was a soft launch, which means that the developer,Icarus Studios, has released it into a few markets to test the game, most likely the multiplayer component. When will it be released everywhere? We don't know. I would assume they would try for a pre-Christmas release, which means it needs to be out by the 21st, which is the day the App Store closes until after the holidays. If we can find out any more information about a worldwide release, we'll let you know. What we know from the soft launch is that Quarriors is iPad only, costs $5.29NZD which should be $3.99USD (I think) and you can download it here from the NZ App Store and here from the Canada App Store.

Disappointing for sure.
I'll have to see about digging Hero Quest out of my still packed boxes of games
unrelated, but does anyone have the Pathfinder card game? Looks neat, I was wondering how it plays.

I have the game, and have only tried it solo. Waiting to play it with a group. It has a bit in common with Munchkin, but is a much deeper game.
The rule book was not always clear, but has been clarified at the Paizo site.
A new adventure path is being designed based on a Pirate theme.

Played Agricola: Farmers of the Moor and Caylus the other night, both with three players. Both were fantastic fun! I love Caylus.

Anyone else tried Coup? We played it at our games night last week and everyone immediately loved it. It's a bluffing-heavy espionage game where players try to outlast one another by assassinating rivals, stealing to buy influence, blocking assassination attempts, etc. Great artwork, cheap cost, easy to understand the rules. Play time is 10-15 minutes.

I was in Sentry Box yesterday and noticed that there was an Axis & Allies 1914 edition. Has anyone tried this? The thought of a WWI board game has me intrigued but the price is pretty steep at $110.
I did almost leave with the second editions of A&A Pacific and Europe. I already own the original Europe edition but the new ones are designed so that you can combine both maps into one huge one.

Anyone played Cards Against Humanity? Ton of my American friends and a few of my Canadian friends (out east) have been raving about it.

It's easily one of my favorite party games. It's like Apples to Apples but way more adult oriented. I actually just finished ordering all of the expansions. Great for some laughs.

This is one of the favored go-to party games among a couple sets of my friends. It's very much something for adults though, and if you have a bit of a twisted sense of humor to begin with, it's even better. The groups I play it with get a huge kick out of it, but I can think of a couple of my friends who the game wouldn't 'take' with at all.

We played some on New Years Eve with one of their house rules; Rando Cardrissian. Every question a random card gets played to represent a fictional player named Rando Cardrissian. Every time someone picked his answer everyone at the table had to drink. Was pretty fun and made things a little more interesting.

Minnie you can download the game for free on their website and print it on regular paper if you want to give it a test run.
The wife and I did that and brought it camping with some friends last summer. I bought it the Monday morning when we got back.

FYI....it's a nice theory but you'll probably never do it. Our group used to play marathon (12+ hour) A&A matches regularly but the amount of stamina you'd need to play a good strategic round on the combo map would be outrageous!
The updated Europe Map is nice because some of the zones are different and reduce bottlenecks and they introduce artillery. The Pacific Map though (imo) is just dreadfully boring. You usually know within 6-8 rounds whether Japan is going to hold on for a conditional victory or not, then it's just playing out the string.
That all said, I will be checking out the 1914 edition asap - tons of great potential!

Apples to Apples is a great game and the family plays it whenever we're together, with or without the youngsters.
Love the idea of the more adult-themed Card Against Humanity though....nice addition to a great/simple/fun game format.
