The problem with the knuckleball is that you can give up that 5 spot in the first, settle down, and go 6 more scoreless innings. That is fine in the regular season when you can just let the guy eat innings, but in the playoffs you get the short hook and kill the bullpen.
The knuckleball is just so volatile and that's the last thing you want in the playoffs. Like what happened against Texas, you are always worried about it blowing up so Dickey's best skill, eating innings, is negated.
Dickey wouldn't be bad as a 5th starter next season. But in the playoffs, he is really only suited to be the long man.

If the season ends tomorrow (which I hope it doesn't) but I see two positives:
1. The fans can give this team the send off they deserve.
2. You will STFU.

^No, that's fair, JayP. But in this case, I would put a lot of blame on the team for not replacing Cecil on the roster. Buherle or Hutchinson should have been activated.

At least now I am fully prepared for the Flames to follow up a Jay's loss, with their own loss for the third time this season.
When both of them lose on the same day it sure does suck.

As a lifelong Jays fan, I don't get the WS or bust mentality this year anyways. There is a prime window of opportunity here as long as Rogers commits to fielding a winning team. I guess, personally, I'm glad that we are talking about Blue Jays baseball this late in the season again. This season has been unreal...tamper the expectations and let's just try to enjoy the remainder of this run. The entire ballclub is in good hands with Shapiro and AA running the show now.

I'm feeling good about the Flames tonight. Nothing cures a slump like a Western swing by an Eastern Conference team.

The key is Rogers committing to fielding a winning team, without that it doesn't matter what Shapiro and AA do.
We will see next year. Essentially the entire 1 through 9 is back so they should be a favorite. Rogers needs to give AA the funds necessary to get two quality starters to go with Sanchez, Stroman, and Osuna (depending upon what they decide with Osuna), and the funds necessary to restock the entire bullpen. We can't go two months next year without a closer like we did this year. If Osuna stays as the closer, than AA needs to sign 2 quality starters and a 5th rotation guy.

Alright I'm glad that game is over. Estrada Price Stroman to win three straight for the good guys. They can do it.

Gotta hand it to KC (yuck), that is a damn good team.
Very unlikely, but maybe there is a miracle in store still.
Either way, it's been a really fun year from the Jays.

#BlueJays reliever Aaron Loup received a call after game started, had to leave for family medical matter, Gibbons said. Not available Wed.
Not good. Not good at all.

Well that sucked. The good news is that we have Estrada, Price, and Stroman starting the next 3 games. If we're going down, at least they'll have to beat our best.
We'll have to do something to get KC's bats off balance, they are crushing everything right now. I was hoping the knuckleball could do that, but it just wasn't working today. Hopefully Estrada can hit his spots tomorrow and give us a chance to win it.

Dickey brings out the worst in me so it takes a lot out of me to be optimistic after watching him pitch for the Jays.

You're an awesome Jays-poster here and I don't disagree with you. I personally cannot look at Dickey without seeing Syndergaard and D'arnaud, if I could isolate the two groups I would but alas I cannot. I also have never been a fan of knuckleball pitchers, but thats just me!

Even Jeff Francis! Any leftie!
I seriously would have put Price in the pen and have Hutchinson start Game 4.
Don't think it would have mattered anyways.
