Wonder if there is any interest in Andrew MacDonald?. Not having a good year in Philly after signing that big deal last summer. Had some good years with New York on the blueline logging over 20 minutes a game.

Question: If the cost of prying loose a serviceable Dman from Flyers is taking on Vinny Lecavalier's contract, would/should Calgary do it?
Absolutely!

2014-2015 $6M this year, so the rest of that is no problem

2015-2016 $4.5M next year, again no problem. Tons of cap space to re-sign: Jooris, Ferland, Bouma, Backlund, Baertschi, Schlemko/Diaz, Wolf, Shore, Arnold, Agostino and Ramo (along with whatever other tweeners you want to keep around)

2016-2017 $3M is his hit and this is the year to worry about. By then, Hiller is a UFA and Ortio is on a new contract. I see Ortio/Ramo or Ortio/Cheaper Hiller as our tandem, which is already less than we're paying this year I'm sure. Jones also comes up, and will certainly not be making $4M. So right there, we've made Levavalier's contract and we STILL have tons of cap room for Hudler, Giordano, Gaudreau, Monahan, Colborne, Granlund, Russell, and Wotherspoon. A lot of raises there, but it's no secret we have loads of cap space preparing for this year

2017-2018 Last year of his contract at $3M. We've already gone through the bulk of the re-signs worth noting, and are likely still fine. Some that were 1-2 years earlier will be coming up (bridge contracts from 2015-2016 for example) but not a huge issue.

Assuming that the Flyers are willing to pay to have this taken off our hands, I'm all in. We also hav Lecalvier on our team. Not who he used to be, but not a terrible guy to have around.

Uh his hit is 4.5 every year isn't it? It's just the AAV that changes.

I'd love to have Vinnie on the Flames if they could pry some assets in exchange for taking him. Much better asset than Richards imo.

Craig Custance @CraigCustance
Marek Zidlicky trade looking more likely although he has full no-trade protection. Would have to be a Cup contender.

Dennis Bernstein @DennisTFP
Mike Richards playing in Manchester today. Never say never but if Kings were close to a deal highly doubt he would be skating

Leafs are not shopping Bernier and likely won't trade him, but there has been some interest expressed and Toronto remains willing to listen

Bernier for Eberle (or RNH) straight up? You have to think the Oilers would be in on him since the market for goalies is quite dry this year.

Dreger on TSN1040 Toronto

-Could trade Bernier. 20% chance. Not shopping but will listen. Have not established an asking price.
-Arizona not done. Players they would like to move include Yandle and Michalek.
-Blues looking for a d-man. Have interest in Petry.
-Detroit could make a big splash. Holland having a lot of conversations with other GM's,
-Calgary not done. In the market for a d-man. Can't see them making a big splash.
-Teams calling Flyers for defensemen. Hextall open to listen to anyone including Coburn. Would have to make the Flyers better to trade him. Player coming back.

Rumored that the Blues, Canadiens, Red Wings, Ducks are really interested in Petry.

Also a handful of teams have called about Andrew Ference (as per the Journal).

I'm told Caps still in the hunt for Stars F Erik Cole but need to move salary to make it work. @NHLBruins also in the mix. #CapitalsTalk

Petry still available. Word in Edmonton last night is Oilers want a 2nd rounder and prospect. They had a scout at yesterday's Wloves' game.

Any news/rumors on a destination for Jan Hejda? Seems like he'd be a solid depth defenseman rental.

The last I heard, the Rangers were expressing some interest, but with the Yandle deal, I'm not sure if the interest is still there.

Hejda from COL? I cannot imagine why COL would move a D man unless they wee getting an upgrade. Worst D corps in the league. Especially since E.Johnson is out long term with injury.

I mean Tyson Barrie is awesome but outside of Johnson and Barrie. Not much going on right now. Thier top D prospect are still a year or two off of making an impact on the NHL club. Should be a cautionary tale for CGY and how to develop their D prospects. Keeps the vets until they're ready.

Bruins remain in number of trade discussions for a forward. Draft picks remain their primary source of trade bait. Other assets obv in play.

Does it?

Most hockey fans don't follow or care about the salaries and contracts of the sport.

Lots of people are pretty casual about the business side of things. Not me, I eat that up. I can understand how some may have not delved to much into that. What I find hilarious are canuck fans that can't name more than 6 or 7 players off their own team, yet want to argue the finer points of the game with me.
