Playing in one's hometown in such a high-stakes game -- the winner advances to play for the NCAA Championship -- can be a double-edged sword for some players. Yes, there will be plenty of familiar faces in the stands cheering you on but the pressure is cranked to a whole new level. You're under a microscope and every shift you play could be -- and likely will be -- placed under a microscope.
However, that kind of intense scrutiny is something Gaudreau is accustomed to. He's the nation's leading scorer this season with 35 goals and 77 points in 39 games and is playing on college hockey's top line.
Being in the spotlight is something that one would have get used to when playing at such a level, and neither he or his head coach Jerry York are concerned about the pressure of playing at Wells Fargo next week.
"Usually it's very, very positive," York said of having players return home. "We've played in Boston twice in Frozen Fours in the last 15 years or so. All of the local kids played even better. I think it's something we look forward to.
"I think it's all positive, from my standpoint. Johnny gets to get some cheesesteaks down there and he'll be excited to be home. It's a real plus for us ... We're saving the Gaudreau family some gas money too."
I think if the Flames get a chance to sign him and play him in that last game to make the contract kick in you have to do it. At his point getting him under contract is more important then time with the Heat this year. Obviously you would want him to play some playoff game to help develop him.
If the Heat can't be an option, why not the American WC team. Looking at the US roster last year it looks like they took some college players (Danny Kristo and Drew LeBlanc).
Conroy also mentioned "it may only happen for a game", interesting comment. Is Calgary planning on bringing them to Calgary vs Abbotsford?

I think it would have to be on Calgary. I don't think any more players can be added to the Abbotsford roster at this point (which is why Agostino is not there, for example). I could be wrong though.

You are wrong actually.
The issue is simply this: if he signs with the Flames, starting this year, he can't play for Abby because he wasn't on the AHL roster on the key date at the trade deadline.
However, if he signs a contract with the Flames that starts next year, he can sign a PTO with Abby and play there for the remainder of this year.
Obviously, door #2 is better. However, if the first option is what is required to get him signed, then no problemo.

So there's a flight that would get him to Vancouver by quarter to 1pm on the thirteenth...........
Pretty sure the entire Canuck team will be mailing it in for the last game of the season, they'll be likely mathematically eliminated in the next 3 days. If this happens I'm hoping Johnny lights them up.
Worried about someone like Burrows or Bieksa cheapshotting him but Johnny is damn elusive so.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

This right here is why folks are hyped about this kid. Last year's development camp was an eye-opener in many respects for those who attended it. Gaudreau is on a different level when it comes to skill and this video has some great examples of it. The kid can simply dangle like no one else in the organization.

Exciting to hear Connie say "it may only happen for a game" in reference to Gaudreau and Arnold. As if the leg work has already been done and they'll be on a plane to Vancouver after the final game happens in the frozen four, and be in the Flames line-up the next day!
