Nobody cares. Therefore if my wife is feeling a bit under the weather, and she doesn't quite feel up to going into work, she doesn't. Nobody cares that she isn't there. Nobody acknowledges her if she sucks it up and goes to work even if she isn't feeling well..

Its a huge corporation and basically she's an employee number. 15 sick days are her negotiated right and she'll use every one of them if she feels the need.
It shouldn't matter if she's just and employee number or that nobody cares. What happened to personal values and what you consider to be right or wrong? Just because a certain number of sick days is a negotiated benefit doesn't give the employees the entitled right to use/abuse a sick day when they are not sick. It's one of many reasons why I loathe unions and hated working under one.

This has become a personal attack on my wife. I only brought her into the conversation because her job is an example of how government bureaucracy is bloated and one of the reasons why.

I am deleting all my posts on this matter and hope a moderator will delete any corresponding posts by others.
This discussion has totally derailed this thread and my wife doesn't deserve the attacks by others.

In a world!

Where the loudest drum beater ... has a dark secret.

The government union job that had broken her incredible work ethic. The government pension whose future safety net he was addicted to.

He could never let The Party know.

It seems fitting.

On a side note, Stephan Dion is still a sitting MP and even successfully ran for re-election in 2011.
On another sidenote Stockwell Day continued to sit as a MP after getting his ass booted out of the big chair of CRAP leadership.

Somehow it wouldn't surprise me in the least... but I hope it won't be the case. As the former Premier I hope she does the honorable thing.... retires so a by-election can be held in her riding. Every riding deserves representation in the legislature.... not a ghost.

Curious Rerun, you seem to feel very strongly about and are railing against "bloated" federal bureaucracy. But guess who has had the chance to fix this supposed problem over the past 8 years? The federal Conservative government. You seem to be a "supporter" according to your signature. Combined with 7 consecutive budget deficits (spending beyond our means), what's the appeal? Is it Stephen Harper's charisma?

I'll answer that for him.

Maybe Alison will cross the floor and sit as an independent to protest the tory caucus.

Let's get things back on track in Alberta. We need strong health care management and to focus on true efficiency and service to the people that are ill. This should be a huge priority and mandate. I also think we should bring back the premiums and get serious about fixing this thing. It's not an overnight solution or a forum board thing, it's broken. Just ask the patients.

We also need a far better education system for 1 - 12. What we are doing is so far in the past with no fundamental change to address the next 15 or 30 years. We need to better integrate technology, better assess and evaluate how we are teaching and what students are learning and to use technologies to increase our advantage.

Focus on non oil related sector growth to balance a bad energy market and soften the highs and the lows.

Also, to remember and keep all of us advantaged by controlling expenditures and managing within the prosperity that we do share in Alberta whenever and wherever impossible.

It's a good thing that she stepped down as you would not want a far left government or radical right in power. My guess is at the next election you would have seen a massive liberal resurgence.

Stephen Carter talks about why Redford failed

Quote:
Stephen Carter, who managed Redford’s 2011 leadership campaign, said the premier got caught up in the trappings of office, forgetting the people who helped her obtain the PC leadership and the voters who gave her party the mandate to govern two years ago.

“To me, that is the Greek tragedy of this. That is her human failing, and she allowed her human failing to get in the way of her potential opportunities,” said Carter, who was a key strategist during the Tory’s election victory in April 2012.

Specifically, that failing is: “The expectation that the world owed her this,” he said.
Quote:
In 2011, Carter said he jumped at the opportunity to run Redford’s bid for the provincial PC job, believing she was a leader in the vein of beloved longtime Alberta premier Peter Lougheed.

“She, to me, was a person ... who could change the province for the better and step into Lougheed’s shoes,” he said.

Redford criss-crossed the province in a modest Hyundai and had a common touch then, Carter recalled.

“In many ways I think I saw the real Alison Redford,” he said.
Who is she today?

“I don’t really know,” Carter said.
Quote:
But while support from so-called “red Tories” helped Redford take the PC leadership, there was a disconnect: she started the campaign with the backing of only one sitting MLA.

And after the PCs won the 2012 election, caucus never acted on the vision Redford laid out for voters, Carter said.

“I watched my friends, my colleagues, my peers, complain about schooling, health care, post-secondary education — issues that Alison Redford got elected on, but couldn’t get through. And that’s very disappointing,” he said.
Quote:
Carter said he doubts Redford’s successor will be able to do it again because the party’s problems run deeper than who the leader is.

“This is a party that exists solely to govern and to win and has lost its way. They’ve forgotten to respect the voters of Alberta,” he said.

Carter had her elected by his genius campaign style. It had nothing to do with her other than she had the good idea to hire him.

I feel the same thing happened with Nenshi, not too mention Barb Higgins made it way to easy.

Totally. Nenshi is a classic case of a lame duck, illegitimate leader.

Thanked for the reference to CRAP which has to be the greatest political acronym of all time. (Conservative Reform Alliance Party if you missed it)

Bah.

Carter comes across as sour grapes for getting canned.

He did a great job running the campaigns, but his severance was one of the hits Redford took.
