I think that was more a necessity given that the team couldn't afford high-end offensive talent. Can't argue with the results.

Then don't post stuff like that. It's like elementary school. "I've got a secret but I can't tell". I know that wasnt the intent but all of us are curious as hell and want the inside scoop which I know people can't provide. I didn't like Molberg's tweet for that reason and iamnotkenking shouldn't have posted for the same reason. You guys have inside info that the rest of us would love to have, good for you, but no need to dangle a carrot in front if us when you know you can't disclose info.

Yes, let's chase away the only posters that have legitimate inside information for not wanting to put their jobs in jeopardy. Then there will be more room for us to wank back and forth over which PBP guy has the more grating voice, whether Jay Feaster deserved to be fired, and how fun 2004 was.

It's the fans who get all wound up by the inside info who are acting they're in elementary school.

My post was made with my tongue firmly planted in-cheek; I wasn't really expecting an answer to my question, since you of course are right about the priority of his job security. I was taking it on good faith that he would be smart enough not the respond.

How is that chasing away? Holy overeaction Batman. I said I didn't like a post and next thing I'm chasing away insiders. I only wish I had that kind of influence. Pretty sure iamnotkenking has better self esteem than to care about what I think or what I post.

Then I would suggest that you are badly misinterpreting the intent behind both Boomer's tweet and IamnotKenKing's post. I expect that they only wished to inform that the Flames's search for a general manager is over and they have settled on a candidate.
That in itself IS NEWS—and it is very good news.
The failure to understand this as news, and to weirdly presume that this is motivated as part of some childish game is really well off the mark of the motivation for supplying such information here.

Flames will be hiring a gm sometime between now and shortly after the draft, that much is certain. Next week, the week after, I don't care. It's going to happen. Releasing tidbits like 'looks like next week', no, doesn't really matter to me.
Apparently I'm in the minority here, we don't see eye to eye, move along.

Is there a study anywhere of average draft success for a team? I suspect most greatly overestimate the success level.
Just based on averages and extremely rough calculations - there are 210 players picked each year (approx) - 30 teams x 7 rounds. Assuming each team has 21 regular players (12 forwards + 6 defense + 1 goalie and two spares in there somewhere), and you're pulling players from 10 years of drafts - you've got 210 regular NHL players coming from 2100 drafted players - so you're looking at a 10% success level.
That is probably high - most teams aren't going to have 21 regulars (the last few spots get shuffled around), it assumes no undrafted players make the NHL and 10 years to pull players is likely low since if you're good enough you'll play for longer than that.

I'm fine with a poster here posting what he did here. I expect a bit more from someone in the media.

Your post admonished both Molberg and iamnotkenking for 'dangling a carrot,' and went so far as to tell them what they should or shouldn't do. That's a pretty far distance beyond simply not liking a post.

We need some more insider information so we have something to discuss other the FFIVs opinion on insider info.

Like what? Boomer's tweet was pretty clear in my mind: He has information in hand that leads him to believe that the Flames have already, or are about to hire their next GM, but he does not know who that is. What do you expect him to do?
Make a guess about who the new guy is and hope to hell that he is right?
Do you expect him to know more than he does, or to embellish more than he does?
If the former, does not his information still count as a significant, real development in the story?
If the latter, what good would possibly come of making a premature guess?

Admonished?
Obviously we are in for a long summer if we take this kind of time to dissect and analyze posts like this.
Geez, didn't think I'd get this kind of blowback. People post insider info, other people ask for more, insiders can't reveal that info. Is it an unexpected result?
I will never, repeat never, again make a contrarian post against insiders. Can we call a truce and move along?

He said this morning that he knew who it was but promised his source that he wouldn't reveal the name.

I've seen too many times on this board people divulging legitimate insider info to be jumped all over for not providing *enough* information. Why would a poster divulge anything for failing to satisfy the immature but loud few who can't recognize that providing info provides very little benefit to the poster and risks their real relationships in the real world. Beggars can't be choosers with real insider pro hockey information so grow up.
