From the City of Calgary News Blog:
Quote:
While evacuating, residents are asked to:
• notify their neighbours before evacuating their homes
• mark an ‘X’ on their own front doors visible from the street for uniformed personnel (CPS and CFD) to confirm that the area has been evacuated
|
Sounds like a great way to get your house robbed!

I'm guessing just getting downtown may be the issue... Thinking it'll be a work from home day for me

Pretty hard, like 150 mm in 24 hours, combined with snow melt.

I am just going to wait till tomorrow morning and see what they say about downtown. I don't think a tweet or a radio DJ saying downtown is closed right now would fly if in fact it wasn't. With the rivers not peaking until the wee hours nothing will be for certain until after that. Although if the option to work from home was there I am sure most employers would say giver.

When I drove past it at around 8:15, the corner near the blackfoot turnoff, where the 'drowning machine' used to be, yeah, it was very close to breaching the banks.

660 twitter said that Calgary said if you don't have to come into downtown tomorrow don't, but I didn't see that on Calgary's twitter feed so not sure where they got it.
Best case scenario is traffic is a nightmare.

They are expecting the breach of the Glenmore Dam at around 2am, but that pic looks like it has already happened.
EDIT: unless they mean the very top of the dam

When all else fails, and you don't know if you have a home anymore ... drink Rye Whiskey.

Nothing yet on whether or not West Downtown will be evacuated. Eau Claire is right next to us, I'm surprised to not have heard anything yet.
