I could see the Flames and Avs trading with each other if the Flames have 1st overall and the Avs have 2 or 3rd overall. The Avs have a ton fo young forwards but need another stud D.
Flames:
2nd/3rd overall (Drouin or McKinnon) + RoR
Avs:
1st overall (for Jones) + lowest first rounder we have at time (Blues or Penguins)
Avs still ahve Duchene and Stansy at center going forward.

No WAY the Avs trade ROR just to move up 1/2 spots in the draft. Besides they can't even trade him until next February cause of the offersheet.

ya ROR can't be traded.
I really am curious how much trade discussoin will be happening between the flames, avs, panthers, etc, for the teams to get the position/player they want.
if the flames get the lottery #1, I wouldn't mind seeing the flames drop to 3-4 if it benefitted the team.
as an example:
To Flames:
Avs top pick (ie. 2nd or 3rd overall)
Stastny
To Avs:
Flames top pick (ie. 1st overall)
Tanguay or cammalleri

Avs can't trade O'Reilly until one year after he signed his offer sheet. So that trade can't happen until February which is much too late.

I think the Avs definately take Jones if available. They have a multitude of young, skilled forwards and they would love to have a d-man they can slot into their top-four almost immediately. I'm not sure what the Panthers/Tallon are looking for, I would assume they're looking for a #1 d-man was well. So I'd imagine that as long as those two teams are ahead of the Flames in the final draft order, Jones is as good as gone.

Panthers fans seem to think that it's MacKinnon to go with Huberdeau.

I was curious about what the chances are of where the Flames will pick with their first round pick. Basically, I took sportsclubstats.com's projected final positions and ran them through the draft lottery chances. Here's what I came up with:
1st: 16.6%
2nd: 22.5%
3rd: 29.2%
4th: 19.8%
5th: 6.2%
6th+: 4.7%

When you consider their lack of defensive depth and the fact that Jones is an American boy I feel if the Avalanche pick 1st overall it will be extremely anticlimactic. You could make a case for Drouin but picking up a center when they are already deep is something the Oilers would do passing on need for another type of player they already have.

Yup, we'll most likely have to finish 2nd to get MacKinnon.

Wow. That's actually a reasonable chance we get a crappy pick even if we finish bottom 3. One in twenty to pick 6+. Boourns, although it's what I asked for the last three years

I'd be fine with the Flames trading down from #1 to #2 if one of the other teams wants to ensure they get Jones and leave MacKinnon to us. I would not want to drop down to 3/4 and miss out on both Jones and MacKinnon. I think Barkov will be a good pick but I believe that MacKinnon will be better.
Picking up Drouin makes me feel uneasy as it would be equivalent to setting up Iginla Era v2.0 where we have this great winger and no center.

Definitely not. However I would consider the reverse scenario where we trade for another top5 pick. If we could somehow acquire MacKinnon and either Jones or Drouin then that would be a very exciting draft for us.

iono if you guys read the sun paper, but the guy has the Flames choosing Barkov with their own first pick than Chris Lazar from the Blues pick and than Shea Thompson with the Pens pick 29th overall...
What do you guys know about Chris Lazar or Shea Thompson?
2 centers and a D man....

fyp.
And you're right, there's no chance they don't take Jones if they have the 1st overall.

I was surprised too. All this relies on sports club stats chances being correct. They rely on season numbers to determine all the %'s. I think if the flames play the way they have recently, our odds of picking top 3 are very good.

You're correct. In order to pick 5th or higher we would need to move up in the standings and have someone like tampa bomb the rest of the season.

No, only one team moves up and the farthest you move down is 1 pick. So a bottom three finish gets us one of the big 4.

A team can only drop one spot in the lottery. Picking 6th would be dependent on us finishing 5th or 6th from the bottom of the standings.

Maybe he means Shea Theodore from Seattle? or Keaton Thompson
I think that is a realistic guess. All three seem like the type of players the Flames would go after, but it depends where St. Louis first rounder ends up being, #15 is too high to take Lazar IMO
