They're putting together a public consultation program and figuring out some of the basic design parameters that will be required due to newer codes and ensuring they'll be more flood resilient. It'll be at least a year before they're up and running again.

I can't imagine there are any Peace Bridge detractors now, only the most hardened hater would still be mad at it. The thing is one of the most beautiful things in Calgary and it's a massive success in terms of usage. It draws people in, it's a magnet for pedestrians and cyclists.

I believe Jedi Ninja is referring to the couple of km along the north side of the Bow west of Crowchild as it curves to the west after curing north directly west of Crowchild. The trail (once there is room along the river) branches off into a ped path and a cycle path. The ped path has been ripped up, and is now being relaid.

Haha, every time I hear about how popular it is or drive by and see how awesome it looks, it reminds me of the day it opened and that dude was sitting up in his office, giving CP a realtime, hour to hour update on the bridge's failure on that frigid day. Just pure awesomeness.

Yah, that's the piece I'm talking about... but what's done is done, I guess.
I'll put a plug in for getting a temporary culvert 'n gravel bridge put in place at Beaverdam flats, though. All of these rant threads about bad bicyclists, dog attacks, and hobos, are making me nostalgiac for my favourite route.

Should be by end of next week.

Hmmmm, not sure. There was a fair amount of erosion in that area, likely flood related.

Oof, that's hard to hear, but understandable. I always enjoyed swapping sides with the paths beside and the bridges over the river when I was using the cycle paths. Miss the bridges, their 'old' look. Went by the one in Sandy park the other day figuring that they would have been 'mauled', and it sure looked like it did.

I've sent in a 311 request twice already about this one:
The Peigan Tr/52nd street intersection needs a retiming (at least temporarily) Going westbound on Peigan, the light is only green for about 11-12 seconds, and with heavy truck traffic, there is basically no time of day where it's less than a 4-5 light wait. Meanwhile, for most of the day, there are only a couple of cars waiting for each of the other directions by the time their lights turn green.
Also, is what is the schedule for the completion of the work at the intersection? It doesn't look like anything has been done for the last few weeks, and I hope they are trying to get it completed before snow and cold.

It is already a huge mess. With only one lane in all directions and staff going back.

Unfortunately, looks like the End of September is the target.

Well to be fair, and since this is the Nenshi thread and it's always bugged me... Nenshi did have some pretty silly comments about the Peace Bridge post-build.

Any more info on this? I mentioned it to a friend of mine, and she's very interested in submitting some designs. I realize that you said they were putting the program together, but any more info on it or who she should be in touch with (or even where she should keep an eye out for announcements)

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed... but tons of street lights are not working around the city. Is this because the city workers are too busy with flood recovery to replace them, or is there another reason?
