There will be no Thrawn:

Also, while the guy who wrote the article isn't far off on many of the EU works, he sure sounds bitter. Was he turned down to write a novel or something?

I will a argue though that the Old Republic stuff and the EU stuff written during the Clones was actually really good and made sense and had a logical flow to it.
They even ignore a lot of the post rotj eu.
Even the Thrawn series which was ok but I don't see the greatness of it was completely destroyed by the prequels. As was the Jedi Academy series.
And the EU post ROTJ got worse and worse due to every writer trying to make their careers off of it. Karen Traviss or whatever her name is, every one of her books came across as a masterbatory fantasy about Bobba Fett.
Worse yet, every one of Keven Anderson's books was about bigger and bigger superweapons.
First it was the death star that destroyed planets, then it was the sun crusher that destroyed solar systems, next thing you know its going to be the universe defragmentor that destroys everything and Palpatines 4 eyed mutant sun with light sabers grafted into every joint in his body has the button.

As a side note some of the Star Wars Rebels discussions and picture peaks look amazing, if it starts off as well as Clone Wars ends it will be amazing.
also for anyone that watched Clone Wars it looks like Season 6 will be released in April of this year to close off that series.
Also I would expect some key characters from Clone Wars to be seen in Rebels

A new Star Wars film is getting closer by the day, and Lucasfilm and Disney have just announced some new information on the status of the production. Episode VII — co-written and directed by J.J. Abrams — is set to begin shooting this May at Pinewood Studios in London. For the first time, however, the team is giving an indication of what fans can expect to see when the film hits theaters in 2015. According to today's release, it will take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, which capped off the original Star Wars trilogy, and "will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces."

I really don't want the primary villain introduced til the end of the first movie.
I will absolutely hate this is they just recycle the Sith as the primary enemy, since the Sith are now dead and gone.
In fact, I would love to see the villain as an ordinary very smart guy who gets passed the Jedi's inate abilities with his planning.
I do think one of the old guard needs to die, the most likely candidate has to be Luke.
Please please please no Force Ghosts of Palpatine or Plagious or Bane.
No chunks of meat covered in gold scales, no Emperors hands as villains.
No super wonder force kids that lift buildings for fun.
Just give me a feeling of hopeless despare like we got at the end of Empire and lots of ship battles and pew pew pew moments.

I like the idea of a Crime Syndicate as the primary mission.
You can even include Bounty Hunters in there as long as Fett remains dead.
If you had an Imperial Remnant manipulating a war with privateers and the Hutt Cartell that would be strong.
I'm also a sucker for enemies from within, you could have one of the young jedi's suffer a tragedy at the hands of the Hutts, and he flips and goes dark (not Sith dark) and becomes the later villain.

Not sure if this will make Captain happy or angry...

Lucasfilm also clarified that only the six previous Star Wars films and Star Wars: The Clone Wars should be considered canon as far as previously released material, though EU elements -- including characters and worlds -- could be incorporated into canon stories, which occurred in the prequels and The Clone Wars and will be the case with the upcoming Star Wars Rebels animated series.

The EU is a cluttered mess for those who haven't followed it for years. For those who have followed, it's not like they're burning all our copies of the Thrawn Trilogy - they just don't exist within canon.
Time for new Star Wars stories!

They already destroyed the mythology with the prequel trilogy so why not?
I'm excited to see this because it can't be any worse that those movies. Even a bad story with ####ty acting can't ruin the Star Wars mythos, so it's all gravy at this point.

I'm good with keeping the canon to the 6 films, the clone war films and rebels.
The EU as I've stated before was a mess of super weapons, ultra stupidly powerful force users goofy stupid villains and heros and ridiculous scenarios.
The Solo twins were at times incredibly cringe worthy. When they had a chance to make Jacen Solo cool with the whole becoming a Sith lord it was a chance to make him interesting instead they cluttered the story with Mando's kicking his a$$, weird scenes of him eating in the bath tub while contemplating evil.
The EU is goofy and should be purged and cleared, even Thrawn (and I don't get why people liked him so much) he spent most of the story yelling retreat followed by "I'll get you next time GI Joe next time" if you replace GI Joe with New Republic it makes way more sense.
To be honest the only EU stuff that I really read is the old republic stuff, the Sith Lord books and the stuff that happens during the clone wars, the rest was complete dreck.
And I cringe at the rumors that they're going to recycle Palpatine or Plageous, isn't the GFFA a big enough creative space that they could create a interesting villian, maybe start with one without force powers, that's simply smart and dangerous like Khan from the original star trek series.

Up until now, most people just assumed that what happened in the EU was canon. Now it isn't and people are upset that what they believed to be true events are just some other story arc unrelated to canon.
The more I think about it, the more I'm okay with it. I've read a few comic books in my day and there was always an alternate universe or story arc or reboot. So we can just look at the EU as a different story arc. Some of them are still good stories.
