It was 2007, that game still haunts me at night. And I don't understand the AJ Smith hate. He gets ripped in the media about being a bad GM and takes a "no-nonsense approach" yet hes still been able to create a competitive team for the past six years. If you want to get into issues that ResAlien just addressed then fine.
LT sucked his last years, and his contract did not warrant him remaining on the club. I understand he's the teams all-time running back, but in a small market like SD, you have to do whatever it takes to win. Having LT didn't make sense then, and subsequently led them to drafting Ryan Mathews with the 12th overall pick in that draft. In regards to Darren Sproles, he was the odd man out. Tolbert and Mathews were both ahead of him in the depth chart, and there were not enough plays during a game to get him into the game to be an effective player. Im glad to see he's doing well with New Orleans, always liked him as a Charger.
What I don't understand is the crap regarding the Vincent Jackson "fiasco". I love VJ, hes a great receiver, but he did not warrant a new deal last year. As I've said earlier in this thread, when VJ began his suspension/sitting out the league was heading into its last year in the previous CBA. To lock up a player whose only proven hes been "the guy" for 2 seasons and has had off-field issues, as well as not know the future economics of the league, it would be absolutely crazy for a small market team to give him big money. I commend AJ Smith for not budging and giving into his demands. As of now, #83 is still on the team catching passes, and he will get his new deal, hes earned it. As well, Smith now understands the economic climate, now knowing there will be another 10 years of labor certainty

I've attempted to decipher your incoherent ramblings and this is what I can see: Tomlinson was behind Mathews on the depth chart? You mean the first round bust who is comparable to no show Moreno, right? Jackson is and has been the best receiver your "small market" team has had in a long time. Your GM's ######ed actions have hamstrung your franchise. AJ Smith is a joke and has done nothing to make himself stand out other than drafting Rivers which was basically a no brainer. Well done.

What is it about the NFL that makes fans say the most ridiculous things?

Cutler weak and overrated? Matthews a first round bust?

I understand rivalries but why just make stuff up?

I am sure they get over it pretty quickly when they see the plays that he makes to win them games.

How are they hamstrung? Please tell me, I'd love to here your "ramblings" on that.
As I clearly stated before, Mathews wasn't ahead of LT in the depth chart, the organization made a decision to allow LT to leave, causing them to make a move at draft day to eventually draft Mathews. They have never played on the same team before. How is he a bust? Sure his first year wasn't productive with numerous fumbles and being injured, but he's played very well so far this year.
I get it, you don't like AJ Smith. Good on ya. But your opinion on how he's "hamstrung" my franchise are clearly off-base and you have no substance to your argument. Please elaborate.
Also, Smith didn't draft Rivers, he acquired him on draft day with a trade with the Giants for Eli Manning.

Last time Buffalo started 4-0 it did not end well. Bills have a tough schedule this year. It would be amazing to get in but they need to emerge from these next five games with at least a 6-2 record.

I already stated earlier that the Bears would miss the playoffs, come 3rd in the division and go .500 if they were lucky this year. I went into the season expoecting to lose.
What pissess me off is how often that game changing calls just aren't being made. The pass interference and the punt return TD (I didn't see on TV where there was a hold, but TV could have missed it.) I can't blame the Packers for not being called, but it was a good game ruined and ya, I like to bitch about it, especially after a few drinks.

Overlooked in the Pats/Bills game was Welker's amazing 271 yard 2 TD day. The guy is just flat out awesome.

Ocho dropped an easy one and was the goat on one of the INTs. Moss didn't give a crap out there, but at least he could catch the ball.

Bill needs to STFU on the sidelines as well, he cost his team a timeout and a chance to get the ball back late in the fourth when he was berating the officials for whatever reason.

I'd rather the Pats lose one early than peak mid season. Brady gets humbled and probably prepares better for the rest of the season.

it surprises me that after last year, Belichick didnt address the defenses needs, this is a team that cannot get pressure on the QB, i know it isnt the Patriots way to go and sign big time free agents but QB's have all day to pick them apart. if that doesnt change, i cant see them winning in the playoffs even with Brady and Welker.

So at the begining of the season loud mouth Ryan said in a presser the Patriots were the only team that came out to play against their Defense last season and he wanted to know if anyone else out there wants to just show up and play some football against them.
Does he mean like the Raaaaiders! DMC put up 171 yds rushing and 2 TDs. The Jets knew the Raiders were going to run and loaded up the box and he still punched them in the yap.
The rookie Moore is looking like the real deal. Just get him the ball.
The Raiders D-line manhandled the Jets and roughed up USC boy several times. 34-24 was the final. I know several people who can't stand the Jets brashness, so you would be happy to hear the Raiders didn't just beat the Jets they beat them up.
BTW Fan960 the Raiders beat the Jets since you seem to overlook that score.

Raiders are looking like the team to beat in the AFC West this year. Their run game is scary and it looks as though Jason Campbell is managing the passing game effectively. I only watched them on the monday night game in week one, are they still taking a lot of penalties?

Brady throws it and McCree intercepts it and gets it stripped because he has to try and run it back. Just knock it down or if you need the int. as a stat, then hit the deck and the game is over. These are the plays that make cheering for thse guys so difficult. you might be right, a different coach might have weeded some of the dummies out by then.
I actually felt bad for Marty Schottenheimer in that game. I watched a NFL network show about best coaches to never win a Superbowl. There's a clip of Marty telling him before that last drive, if you get the pick don't worry about the return, drop to the ground and let them touch you....What does he do?

Than you have Kaeding not hitting field goals. The media rips Schottenheimer for being too conservative, but if he has a kicker with any type of clutch blood in his body, that Charger team likely at least gets to the Superbowl.

Colts owner Jim Irsay has backed off these comments this morning, saying he still hopes Manning will return late in the season. Personally I think he won't be back though, if they're smart anyway.

Just looking at the Rams sked for fantasy reasons (which I won't get into in this thread), man is the first half of their schedule tough! First 7 games:

Eagles, Giants, Ravens, Redskins, Packers, Cowboys, Saints.

The second half gets a lot easier, what with all the NFC West games they get to play, and dates with beatable AFC opponents like the Browns & Bengals. If they could somehow even get to 3-4 at the end of the guantlet of a first 2 months, they'd be sitting pretty in that division, as long as Bradford stays healthy. Though with those injuries and an 0-3 start, its not looking good so far.

Seahawks LB Aaron Curry officially on the trade block. I'm still stunned this guy hasn't developed at this level, he was supposed to be a safe, can't miss prospect. Too bad there's not really any Seahawks fans on here (which shocks me, considering its a Calgary board) to shed some light on whats happened there.

Eagles, Cards, Giants, Panthers, Chiefs already in contact with him.

I think most people on the board will cheer for anyone but the Hawks, because they are shoved down our throats on a weekly basis.

You must have missed the dedicated Seahawk thread...there are a few of us here.

Not sure what happened. He has all the physical tools still as he did, but not the mental sense. He was a smart guy, and one assumed that he'd figure out the adjustment to the NFL from college ball. He hasn't.

Whether it be football sense, or the killer instinct that you need to be an NFL linebacker, he just hasn't used his mental capacity to properly use his physical tools to be the dominant guy he was projected to be.
Year 1 you may get a pass, but year two he was as much or more of a ghost out there.

This year so far he's shown glimpses, but dropped an easy INT at a key point vs. Pitt and really not the stand out of a top 5 draft pick.

He's not a complainer, he's not got a bad attitude at least as far as being disruptive.

He did restructure his deal to keep his position to this point this year, but got relegated to second team this weekend.

Its too bad, the Seahawks, although doing well with their current rag tag bunhc, need that stuf LB to help suppliment a young line with the run.
I've said before, if you could've put his body on Tatupu's (2008 non concussed) head and football mind on Curry's body, you'd have a top NFL linebacker.

Certainly a head scratcher, because there's nothing obvious wrong...and as for a team picking him up, its tough for that team to figure out what exactly it will take to motivates him to get him to play up the couple levels he needs to take it up.
