His biggest problem is that when he misses, he misses badly. That usually doesn't lead to pitches over the plate fortunately, but just bad balls that are really easy to lay off of. Even hitters with poor plate discipline can lay off those pitches so Grilli can get himself into trouble no matter who's at the plate.
