I don't have a problem with Gausman pitching to Raleigh. He had already struck him out and there was nobody on.
I do have a problem with going to Little especially when the guy he was pitching to is good against lefties. And then there's the wild pitch that set up the winning run.
But the biggest problem was the offense choking and not taking advantage of Seattle having to play in a 15 inning game on Friday and use two of their starters.

In the end Gausman had Raleigh in a favourable count and just left that pitch hanging a bit too much in the zone, needed to make sure if you pitch to him there you're giving him nothing to hit and trying to get him to chase.
And honestly I probably would have just left Gausman in that point. He had no trouble up until then and I'd for sure not have brought little in there
But in the end the real issue with the game was the bats. With how hampered the Mariners pitching was coming into the game the bats really needed to have a better day

Like guy said on TV, the best decision is the one that works. And this one didn't work. You leave Gausman in and the the guy after the walk jacks one, and everyone says why did they leave him in there.
Regardless, this didn't work and neither did the Jays bats

Yeah. I don't mind Gausman pitching to Raleigh in a 2-2 count - that's favorable to get a chase on a splitter and if he got that pitch to move down like he normally does you're not having a conversation about it because he struck Raleigh out.
That said, I also don't mind pulling him 3rd time through after a hr and then a walk. I wouldn't have gone with Little with a man on though - he's usually good for a walk or two before he gets his K, doesnt seem like a good fit for the situation.
Biggest problem here was scoring 1 run when the Ms start a depth guy.

If a game one loss is crippling, you’re not championship material. Lots and lots of time left for Jays to get control of the series.

They do, it's just annoying they let an advantage like that slip away. There were Mariner fans already conceeding game 1 after Friday.

But Gausman is and has been the last two months, the most rock solid pitcher in the lineup by far.
A splitter that wasn’t another 3 inches lower after having a good sequence with Raleigh and retiring 16 guys straight before him.
And sure, it threw him off for the next batter. But he was in total control up to that point. And I don’t think he was unraveling or had suddenly lost it that the best pitcher and a vet couldn’t get out of the inning without that second run.
Considering all that, I’ll trust the teams best pitcher having retired 16 of last 18 then trusting anyone in the bullpen. He would’ve not throw the WP to get the walk to second. Even if he gave up a single that guy is at third and not home.
TLDR, I’ll trust a cruising Gausman who hit a speed bump, to work his way out of that inning not giving up the second run, then trusting the Jays pen.

After the first pitch home run, the Jays mustered one hit the rest of the game. Thats what cost them.

Also said he “wanted to turn Polanco around”. He struck out twice earlier against Gausman who waved at the pitches.
No real comment on walking Raleigh.
Not at all convincing argument. He messed up, plain and simple. Bringing in Little gave up a run. A dumb move by a scared manager to rush to pull Gausman after he retired 16 in a row before Raleigh.
A manager who strikes again after the Seattle series and Twins series with terrible decision with Garcia and Berrios.
Gausman said he felt good and had a lot of gas left.

Schneider is far from perfect but you seem to have a particular dislike for him. Any particular reason?

Sorry, but I have to rebut this.
Ran with Gausman and Yesavage to go 2-0 up on the Yankees, knowing their tendencies.
Not his fault in game 3 as he made the right moves but had ridiculously bad luck against him (Judge homerun on an impossible pitch for example).
Followed that up with a nearly spotless bullpen game to win the series against a gifted offensive team that touched up the Jays bullpen the previous games.
Listen, he's like anyone in any job ever. He has made mistakes in the past. What you look for is someone who's learned from his mistakes, and it looks like he has.

Early pull aside that loss was all on the offense. Sad to only get two hits against a tired team. Not sure what happened after the great ABs in the first. Not going to score many runs facing less than 10 pitches an inning.
The Ms are clearly better than the Yanks. Hopefully the Jays rebound tomorrow.

I kept thinking this reminded me so much of the 2015 and 2016 ALCS where the jays bats went silent and opposing pitching dominated.
Then I saw that the jays 3 lowest hit totals in their playoff history were tonight (2), game 1 2015 (3) and game 2 2016 (3).

I’m talking about playoff history before this year. The pulling of Garcia earlier than he should’ve in game 2 of 2022 and letting the laptop decide Berrios couldn’t go more than a couple innings vs the Twins in 2023 game 2.

I expected a bit of a letdown in this one, but the pitching was still solid at least. Going from the high emotion of beating the Yankees to a series reset might take a minute for the offence.

Blue Jays have never lost a playoff game with the roof open, iirc.

Same lineup as game 1.
Lukes good to go, which is a relief
Edit: same lineup except Santander and Clement flipped. Clement batting 8th now instead of 7th
