Decisions like Nurses extension and throwing Campbell starter money are providing that buffer of stupidity that will keep the Oilers from getting over the top with mcdrai in their primes.
If they used all that money wisely and/or actually negotiated those extensions, they might actually have the team to go all the way.
But thankfully that's not the reality we live in and Edmonton is No Good and knows exactly how to #### up the perfect storm of walking backwards into two top 5 forwards.
They are absolutely going to squander a full decade of these guys and plunge back into suck for the foreseeable future.
Have to shout out Chiarelli for doing god's work.

He also got a phantom assist on Mcdavids goal where McDavid literally was digging it out from a pile of Canucks who were laying on the ice, it looked like a Canuck kicked it free towards McD and he put it in the open net. Goal should have been unassisted. That's unassisted in every other building in the NHL.

He's so desperate to try to score haha, tapping his stick and completely abandons any semblance of defense. What position does he play again?

That's what happens when you make it all about points and individual stats

Thinking that Nurse is anything but a middle pairing defenseman because of his low IQ errr hockey IQ, but his easy negotiation to get a 9+ million dollar a year contract makes me smile in the dark times.

They broke down the new defensive system the Oilers are apparently playing this year.
To me it looked similar to everything they have run in the past look utterly confused and try to get up ice to get points.
It will be awesome when Woodchip is sacked midseason and never heard of again. They got bailed out by a historical PP and a hot streak by a crappy goalie.

I just went back to watch that highlight. That was terrible defense. Talk about not knowing when and when not to jump into the play if you are a defenseman.
Skinner's reaction after the first Vancouver goal was hilarious as well. Looks like Mike Smith might have rubbed off on him a little.

Yes. It was a general statement on the stupidity of many moves they've made in the McDavid era. Chiarelli helped set the stage and Holland has carried the torch outside of Ekholm which is the only slam dunk trade that's helped their cause in any meaningful way.
Reinhart, Koskinen & Hall --> Strome --> Spooner really got the snowball rolling. Then Nurse, Lucic --> Neal and Campbell were the blows that ensured that they'd have a worse roster than they could've had, and wouldn't be able to fill out depth positions with anything more than league minimum journeymen.
They managed to hire the two perfect idiots in succession to squander the McDrai era.

Both Campbell's and Nurse's contracts were negotiated and signed by that sooper-genius, Ken Holland.

Holland is a smart guy. At some point he said to himself, ‘I gotta get another GM gig with a long contract and a big salary BEFORE people figure out that I was basically Jimmy Devellano's sock puppet all those years!’
Applying those smarts to actual hockey decisions is a totally different question.

The best part is that I dont think Nurse takes a single stride after his own blueline.
