This is a through and through ass kicking. Pretty evident that the Astros, Orioles, and Ray's are miles ahead of anyone else especially this Jays team.

Just a brutal series.

This Jays and Flames seasons feel so similar with how both played out.

The sad thing is they likely still eek out a wild card spot. At this point I think missing is the best thing for the franchise. Dont wanna give the false sense of that this team is close. Id like to see an overhaul.

What an incredibly thorough beat down in all aspects of the game.

My optimism the last 2 seasons is turning into dread about what might be to come. A lot of the top prospects were moved to turn this into a competitor and that didn’t work. The whole thing could implode here and leave us with long rebuild.

Schneider breaking out all of the clichés again. Kind of wish that he’d show some ####ing emotion as we are collapsing in the crucial part of the season.

Why show emotion? He knows he's fired when the new president and gm come in.

I'm really not sure about what to do with Vlad.
A) Sign him to a deal. He'd have to come at a discount because the past few seasons, but how much of a discount will he take? Nobody is going to sign him to $40M and nobody is going to give him a long term deal. He also is likely going to bet on himself. So it'd have to be a short term deal. I'd guess 2 x $24M would be the magic number, which I'd take a chance on.
B) Deal him. With one year left on his contract and with his recent play, surely nobody is giving up all-star calibre prospects. So what would dealing him accomplish?

I really think you sign him to a short term deal to see what he can do. His value is just not worth what his upside is. But he has to be comfortable with his surroundings. He just seems to be dejected most nights and that's a concern, because it feels to me like something is bothering him and he's just silent quitting.

You sign him short-term after what he did this season and then get a real hitting coach before you give up on him. Something they should have did even after last season.

Sure they may have had good hitting numbers but their approach was still flawed.

At this point, I just take it year to year until he’s a free agent after the 2025 season. Go through the arb process this year and next and then make a decision in 2025. They can either sign him, trade him, or let him walk…at this point, I’m indifferent to any of those options.

At this point, he’s at the lowest possible value and I doubt he’s willing to sign a deal anyways and trading a worthless asset isn’t great.

What top prospects? Martin is a bust. Groshans? Hogland maybe? Tbh Frasso might end up being the best player they’ve traded recently. Schneider looks better than all of them. I would worry more that this team doesn’t have a superstar rather than we traded anyone good.

Yep. It's the total Cody Bellinger scenario. No point trading him when you'll get nothing back. You sign his Arb years, if he finds it great, if not you cut your losses and move on.

It's obvious he's put a lot of weight back on. Prior to 2021 his socials were filled with him working out and playing baseball. The hard work has died off and so have the results. Interesting to see if he fights for his career again.

I’m the first to harp on weight but has he put back on? If I’m watching daily I haven’t noticed. He seems mobile enough at first. Just can’t tell. Weight was always going to be a battle with him so he has to fight it. But I don’t think that’s the problem in this case. It’s his lazy approach at the plate. He just doesn’t seem too bothered. Very odd.

At least Bellinger has the desire. I don’t think Vladdy has that.

I get what you are saying, but the truth is they sent a lot of top prospects away and the team is not a contender. So those assets can’t be used anymore to improve the team, and they aren’t in the system to potentially breakthrough. So they now have the 20th ranked farm system in the league, won’t threaten this year, are likely to lose some pretty good players this season…….I think it’s fair to say they have their work cut out for them. Based on what’s happened so far my faith in the management team to pull it off is not high.

Holy hell just watched the highlights without knowing the results and it was just the saddest thing. Other than a couple early defensive plays there was nothing positive for Toronto to show and they had to resort to highlights of strikeouts and pop outs.

Still only 1 game out. Just like 3 wins in a row vs Royals didn't make them a world series favorite 3 losses in a row to Texas doesn't make them a bunch of bums.

And the 3rd wild card spot is the one you want anyway. In a world where the 2nd best team in the AL East is the 3rd best team in baseball, you don't want to play them in the wild card round.

Plus, the way the brackets are set up the winner of 3/6 plays 2. So if the Jays finish 6th and beat Minnesota in the wild card round, they'll play the winner of the AL west next. Recent history vs Texas notwithstanding, I think that's better than playing the winner of the AL east.
