Could you imagine him and Gaudreau on the same line?
Or even just the same team.

That contract though. Through 2022-23.

Patrick Kane is worth the contract.
Toews on the other hand...

Given BT’s track record, I’m sure he’s looking at every angle. If someone makes a jaw dropping offer for Backs, I’m sure he will do what is best for the team in the short and long term.

Will he be worth it 3-5 years from now? $10.5 is a lot. Especially for a winger.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one, but agree in principle.

Duchene - Jankowski - Bennett would be a hell of a line...but at the price Sakic got for Duchene though, no thanks. The equivalent would have been what? Mikael Backlund, a 1st round pick, and 2nd round pick? Nahhhh.
After early struggles, Duchene has found his groove and looks like a nice piece for their core going forward. Stone and Duchene are both young enough to build with going forward.

All the talk about the Duchene deal got me thinking, should BT be looking at a 3-way deal to make something happen at the deadline? I’m not sure what scenario it works in, but it is an interesting way to go about it if you can find a couple dance partners.

I like the way you think.
To OTT: Mikael Backlund, Michael Stone, CGY 2019 1st round pick, CGY 2020 1st round pick, EDM 2018 1st round pick
To CGY: Erik Karlsson (50% retained), Connor McDavid (50% retained)
To EDM: Magnus Paajarvi

I would take Toews if the Hawks retained

He averages 8.5M in cash for the next 5 years, which still puts him under 35. Given his pedigree, a team less concerned about the cap (10.5M) and more concerned about the actual cash, Toews is probably quite movable. Well other than his NMC...

He has 15 points in 17 games in 2018. I wouldn't count him out just yet.

Probably not, but if he's worth it for the first 3 or 4 years and we can win a cup in that time then I could live with it.
Of course there's no guarantee that will happen, and it would be a massive gamble, but there's probably worse moves that could be made.

Duchene is someone whose name provides him more value than he's probably worth if you just look at numbers. Not that he's a bad player or anything like that, it's just he's not really the franchise type forward he seems ascribed to be based on how much notoriety he has. Maybe that's his Olympic appearances, maybe it's the high draft position, maybe it's 1 or 2 standout seasons - I don't know.

I was reading an article on the score saying Brian gionta would want to join a team after the Olympics...
If he plays well, does anyone think he'd be interesting /good enough to play some high energy minutes?
Pros:
Has experience
RW right shot
Has been a good PP guy in the past
Cheap
Cons:
Old
May be too small
Production has really slipped past few seasons

heck no to Gionta. If we wanted another old RW project, I'm pretty sure the team would look a different direction. Instead I hope they go after a good younger player who can win games instead of cost games.

Duchene also cost the senators Shane Bowers (28th overall pick in 2017) plus a 2018 first-round pick and a 2019 third-rounder AND Kyle Turris
i don't think he's that much better than Turris to be honest
