I’ve found no shortage of great Leafs fans on Twitter. They are plentiful and I like some of them enough that I’ve actually come to quietly root for their team a wee bit. But Toronto sportswriters love to stir this particular pot in regards to McDavid. If folks in Toronto ever wonder why others in the rest of Canada rarely get behind the Leafs, this kind of thing is Exhibit A. The Leafs will never be Canada’s Team.

By the way, it’s now the third year of Auston Matthews’ Entry Level Contract and the Leafs have a) not yet won a playoff series or b) managed to sign up Matthews to a long term deal. Both things were accomplished in Edmonton by the end of McDavid’s second season

Wow what a barrel full of cry baby that column is.


And I just don't get it, Edmonton fans seem to be drawing this picture of McDavid as some natural leader that will do anything to win. But frankly and I've said it before, I don't see it. I see lazy defensive plays. Flybys, and a guy who's interviews don't feel like some fiercly determined to prove people wrong Captain, but as an exhausted, tired of hockey being un fun person.


The last time the Oilers were in the playoffs, McDavid deadsticked it. Last year it felt like the only thing that mattered was trophies not establishing a level of play and a winning culture. This years team quit on T-Mac and look like they've quit under Hitch. I don't care what anyone says, that goes to the guys that lead the dressing room and wear the letters.


As easy as it is to blame Chia, and he deserves blame, and T-MAC (look how he screwed up poopparty, he needs a new coach, new coach comes in Poopparty still poop) and Hitch, this Oilers locker room just feels like a spoiled three years old who crosses his arms, sticks out his lower lip and shakes his head while screaming "No" when things don't go their way.


In his time with the Oilers McDavid has shown tremendous scoring skill, unbelievable speed, supurb cross overs, but leadership, I haven't seen much that shows that he provides that.


Is McDavid the Oilers version of Iginla? Nope, Is McDavid a super Kent Nilson? Yup.

The estimable Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet’s 31 Thoughts column referred this week to an unidentified blockbuster trade then-but-not-now Edmonton general manager Peter Chiarelli had been working on, but did not complete, at the 2016 entry draft.

The blockbuster, Slap Shots has confirmed with multiple sources, would have been with the Rangers and it would have sent Ryan McDonagh to the Oilers in exchange for the fourth-overall selection in the draft the Blueshirts intended to use on Clayton Keller of the USNDT.

There would have been additional components to the trade, but that would have formed the foundation of it. The Rangers — coming off their white-flag, five-game, first-round surrender to the Penguins — not only understood the time was at hand for a makeover, but recognized McDonagh represented their most marketable commodity.

McD's limited NTC didn't kick in until July 1st after the draft.

David Staples is the only "journalist" I know who goes around attacking other journalists when they criticize his beloved Oilers. He does it with such regularity & frequency that I dont consider him any kind of a serious sports journalist.
