Really nice system for handling mods, really easy to subscribe to mods and it just automatically installs them or any updates for them when you start the game.

Skyrim (and Oblivion) are games that you need to play through once on Vanilla, and then play through again with mods. They can so drastically alter the game play experience it is almost like having a totally new game.
That logic never made any sense to me. Someone told me that about Dragon Age as well. I start all these games with as many good mods as possible. I go back to stock and they are ugly, broken, messes without any of the features I enjoyed so much. The same thing applies to Stalker.
Why ever play vanilla? It's a waste of time when time is precious and these games take months to finish anyway.
If I saw Skyrim like this, I would never want to touch the original ugly thing again.
A buddy at work raved about this game - I ignored him
I bought it at a Steam sale for 50% off - put an hour in.
Decided to give a shot again while bored and now I'm hooked.
I play a lot of RPG's. Old, new, crazy japanese ones.
Skyrim easily falls in the top 5. Nuff said.
The first time you have to fight a dragon was a true holy shiznit game moment. The thing is perching on buildings, bomb diving, sweep attaking you. Charging, then flying out of range on blowing fire on you. Felt like a real dragon battle, not to mention it looked gorgeous. The dragon was scary in that gamish, run for your life, look at that zerg rush sort of way! Plus it looked and behaved like a real dragon. ...I am assuming...
Looking at those screenshots, I wanna mod it up and play it again.
I got hooked for a while but never finished, mainly because I didn't find the main story engaging in any way, character advancement was boring (you gain few perks or new skills, just statistical improvements to existing skills), and the combat was repetitive: click-swing, click-swing, click-swing, etc.
Looking forward to new Dragon Age.
Sorry for the crapping-on-the-game response, but that's my subjective experience.

The game is so large that the main story can get lost at times for sure. But I never minded that, I'm one of those guys that seeks out every last mission in RPG games.
I found once I got to the halfway point, the story was quite engaging. I had to keep myself from following the main story path too quickly just because I wanted to see as much as I could.

The main story line isn't even close to the best quest line you can find. There's several that are much more entertaining
If just clicking and swinging wasn't fun for you there's lots of different options for combat. Be a Mage and use exclusively spells, there's an endless amount of magic you can learn. Or do what I've been doing and use a bow and dagger and level up in sneaking.
I recently played the Dragonborn expansion and I liked it, it added some decent storyline and solid new armor/weapons/items
