I'm not a Jays fan by any means but Cecil is pitching an excellent game vs the Angels tonight, which is great because I hate the Angels more than any other MLB team.

2 great starts by Cecil on the road trip. Funny how on the road he's thrown some great games but seems to get hit hard at home. If the Jays get through May with 30 wins I'll be pretty impressed. Once the calender hits June, than they start seeing a healthy dose of the Rays and Yankees.

Well at least 2 men of the rotation look good. Cecil and Morrow are hit and miss.

With Eveland, who's the 5th starter now? Litsch should almost be back.

Only .5 game back of the WC! At least it's been a ton of fun while it's lasted. Good matchup on the mound tonight Romero Vs Santana

In June, there are a ton of off days, so the 5th starter would only need to pitch 2 times, so I'm assuming Litsch will be up for the immediate, and maybe Rzep, or Tallet take over if he struggles.

The pitching thus far has been awesome, even with Eveland and Tallet's struggles.

Definitely a pleasant surprise. I would've thought 70 wins would've been a good season this year. The Jays would have to go 10-20 each month after this one to hit that target.

The thing is that for many MLB rotations you might have two guys who give you pretty consistant performances and the rest of your rotation can be pretty hit and miss. Hence why very few teams have more than 3 starters who throw enough innings to qualify for the ERA title, and very few teams have more than 2 guys with 12 wins. So far the Jays have been getting consistant pitching from Marcum and Romero. After that it's been exactly what you could realistically expect.

How long should the Jays keep sticking with Hill struggling in that #2 spot in the order? I suppose they really don't have any other #2 type hitters in the current lineup.

yeah keep him there, he'll come around. He's seeing the ball better I think. The walk he drew last night was huge.

here's a fluff article stating VW's improvement in the UZR metric is returning him to the vaunted place he once occupied with the league's cream of the crop.

Something about that game was screaming loss at me all night. Be it Morrow walking too many guys or Encarnacion botching what was a pretty easy double play ball that more or less cost them 2 runs. The team also didn't hit for beans all night and got lucky when Abreu botched that easy catch in the top of the inning. They needed to make the Angels pay with more than one run.

AA speaks.

Quote:
"The expectation from talking with the players, from Cito (Gaston) and from myself has been to compete, irrespective of prognostications. We were going to come out and play competitive baseball and going to play hard,” Anthopoulos said. “From that standpoint, we’ve met expectations. The results, the wins and losses over the course of six months is an issue that will settle itself out.

“We thought the lineup would be low average, low on-base but high in the slugging department because of the track record of a lot of these guys. But, leading the major-leagues in home runs?

“We thought we would be a home-run hitting team but to lead the majors? I don’t think we would have thought that.

“With the rotation, we were running a lot of guys out there who had stuff and the ability to strike guys out but they are young and inexperienced. For all the times they were going to throw well, they were going to have times when they were going to scuffle.”
Quote:
"What do we need to do?” Anthopoulos asks. “I think you’re always looking to be competitive, especially against the good teams. The offence has been there the entire year. I think we’re looking for the rotation to continue to make strides against some of the better teams.

“It’s part of the process with young starters. They’re going to have times when they look great and you’re going to have other times when they scuffle. That’s part of their development but we know the upside is there and we’ve seen it.”

Man how refreshing is it to hear AA speak compared to JP? AA is so honest and pure.

JP was on the radio every week taking phone calls from fans, he wasn't some monster.

Very worthwhile on Randy Ruiz

J.P's problem was that he was willing to divulge too much when he did speak and that got him into a lot of trouble. He may have been a bit too honest and open for his own good.

Great chance to start a roll today for the Jays, 3 games against the Orioles. They need these ones badly as their next 9 after this are against Tampa and New York.

Well if only all teams in the AL East were like the Orioles. Cecil puts up 8 strong and the a couple of homers in the 8th get him another win. 4 big fly's by the Jays today to help them win.
