Because there wasn't a peep about any of this until a month ago. Nothing.
As I said, there must not be much to the drinking rumors and the Broncos grave concerns, because Orton has publicly stated his affinity for the party and his unwillingness to change it or apologize for it.

And would that not be normal when trying to trade the guy and keeping a lid on it to sustain his value in hopes of making the best deal possible?

3 years in town, nothing about character, drinking, immaturity. Nothing. Now, this stuff comes out? That goes completely against what you say above.

So it's ok to have a 'healthy' confirmed boozer as opposed to a diabetic 'rumoured' boozer?
OK.

It was around his draft year...not as bad as now...but it was out there.

Yes...because if I am an owner investing literally up to 40-50-60 MILLION dollars ina guy for a decade or so...i really dont want a diabetic who drinks.
OK?

Are the rumours specific to post diagnosis drinking? I didn't hear the entire Schlereth segment, but I did not hear him clarify that.

His off the field "issues"...but even I at the time thought of it as "so what...the kid was in college, leave him alone".

Dunno actually...but when you add everything up....its sort of clear he isnt really in control of..
a) himself
OR (and more likely)
b) his agent.
I mean honestly...to say something like " i didnt want to get traded" after the last 10 days or so...is absolutely ridiculous when he then says that no one told him about it.
Seriously....does he never watch ESPN? Not check email? Not answer his phone nor his cell? Why did he put 2 houses up for sale in Denver? Not do any of facebook/myspace/twitter?
Good grief...monks in Tibet likely knew his agent/himself had asked for a trade....its just silly to suggest otherwise IMO.

Like I said earlier, I think he was getting really bad advice and realized that it was going to change his life in a negative manner in the last couple of days.
That does speak to some level of immaturity, no question. Past that, I'm not willing to throw his character under the bus based on rumor.

Lifetime In Suspension

Nah, the last couple days were just him trying to save some face to stop all of the Jeff George comparisons. I'm more than happy with riding this season out with Orton, and depending where they finish the year trading up next year using the Bears 1st to get either McCoy or Bradford. They got more than I thought they would for Cutler, that's for sure.

I guess it's good trade. More then I thought Broncos could get. Surprised it was done so quickly, and to the team it was too.
Both teams win this trade, but Bears sure gave up a lot.
At least Orton can be a good enough fill in for this season at least.

Denver got a kings ransom for Cutler, cripes if he pulled this act in college could you imagine ESPN burying Cutler for his "character issues". It will be interesting how Cutler handles the "hometown" scene, but he certainly doesn't have the receiving core he did in Denver.

We'll see how he fares against a first place schedule next season. Tons of potential, he ain't there yet.

the didn't finish 1st so they won't have a 1st place schedule
and I was being sarcastic, but as I agree he isn't better now. But he will be better sooner then later. The kids got a great skill set, aswell as a great head on his shoulders

No doubt about it. Seems to be in a perfect situation too. Solid coaching staff, great running game and some talented young receivers.

ya and I was there with my father for the Bears game when they beat them with :01 left on the clock......amazing poise by a rook!!
on a side note, my Dad's a Bears fan, hence why we went to Atl, and he is jacked about the move today. He makes a great point that he believes that Chicago has more veteran leadership (Urlacher, Briggs etc) to keep Cutler under wraps. That is if Lovie decides to mention he would've traded for someone else......sorry had to throw the last part in.

If the Bears don't make the playoffs this year I fully expect Mike Shanahan to replace Lovie.
