I looked for a few of these albums on the weekend. As I expected, none of the ones that I remembered could be found. I'm either going to need to schedule a trip to Recordland or go on an Amazon.ca spree.

I actually don't mind Fallout Boy. Not my cup of tea. I think it just angers me that the label "emo" is thrown around for everything now a days when it used to define a very unique genre of which Fallout Boy is not part of. I appreciate the ability to write pop music well.
I don't know if people are just closed-minded or what, but Fall Out Boy is actually a very good band. If you can get past the genre stereotypes, and just listen to the actual music they play... it's really quite good. I was actually pretty surprised, myself.
I stay away from Simple Plan and Sum41 and Blink 182 etc, because they actually do sound like crap, but Fall Out Boy has something going. It's kinda bluesy, but heavy... with some funk and a sense of humour, etc.
I guess the trick is to just open your mind up a little bit and hear the music instead of the stereotype (which they don't even fit into anyway).
Whoa. I didn't even notice that "emo" crack (and, yes, I realize I even quoted it). Emo is one of the most overused words on the planet. People don't even know what it means anymore.
...
Maybe I'll dedicate the rest of my picks to selecting the most chalk-boardingly grating albums I can find. Pee Wee Herman, Britney Spears, Nickelback... I'm looking at you!

Sorry about that to both of you, Fan & Sowa.
I'm actually pretty educated on what "emo" really is, in the sense of bands like Weezer or Jimmy Eat World when they debuted in the '90s, or Thursday in the early years of this century.
And I also know that FOB has been erroneously labeled as "emo" too by the mainstream media, which was part of the joke.
I threw that EmoIn80 crack in to try to be funny. I get a kick out of how Girly makes little jokes out of your name on CP.
I'm stupidest when I try to be funny.

PS: I used to really like "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" until it was played to death on X92.9. Good tune, and as you say, good sense of humour.

Nono it's all good. Even though I didn't notice the EmoIn80 right away, I still thought it was funny.
No worries, dude.
Edit: I have a very dry, sarcastic sense of humour. Unfortunately, my humour doesn't really translate well into text. Don't take my post as me being mad, I was just getting you back.
I am very excited to add Senor Smoke by Electric Six to the audio stable via Album 2003 - 2005. Lot's of rock being brought with this one. Large servings of pop, funk, disco and goofiness too. Easily the finest hour for this Detroit six-piece. Step right up, lots of fun here. The song Future Is The Future is easily one of my favorites.
Yikes. Testament was completely off my radar... I need to get back in touch with my old-school roots imo.
Heh, nice to get some reactions out of that one. I felt it was a good pick for a game like this, because great albums from not-that-great bands rarely get the love they deserve.
History will undoubtedly enshrine this disc as a watershed the likes of which may never truly be appreciated. Giant Steps bore the double-edged sword of furthering the cause of the music as well as delivering it to an increasingly mainstream audience.
He was, in essence, beginning to rewrite the jazz canon with material that would be centered on solos — the 180-degree antithesis of the art form up to that point. These arrangements would create a place for the solo to become infinitely more compelling. This would culminate in a frenetic performance style that noted jazz journalist Ira Gitler accurately dubbed "sheets of sound."
In jazz harmony, the Coltrane changes (Coltrane Matrix or cycle) are a harmonic progression variation using substitute chords over common jazz chord progressions. These substitution patterns were first demonstrated by jazz musicianJohn Coltrane on the album Blue Train on the tunes Lazy Bird and Moment's Notice. Coltrane continued his explorations on the 1960 album Giant Steps, and expanded upon the substitution cycle in his compositions "Giant Steps" and "Countdown", the latter of which is a reharmonized version of Miles Davis's "Tune Up." The ability to blow over the Giant Steps/Coltrane cycle remains one of the standards by which a jazz musician's improvising ability is measured.
well it would appear to be my turn now as its been over 24 hours since troutmans pick

The album received critical acclaim, but this did not translate into the mass sales the duo had hoped for. "Breathe In" was released as the first single internationally, and reached number two on the Italian radio airplay charts, and debuted in the top 50 in the UK singles charts, but the follow up singles "Must Be Dreaming" and "It's Good To Be In Love" were shelved from commercial release in the UK, due to lack of radio and TV interest.
However, both "Breathe In" and "Must Be Dreaming" became minor hits in Asia, particularly in Indonesia, where both singles became Top 10 hits in Indonesian Airplay Chart, respectively at number 7 and 5.

With my 9th, I select in the category of “Soundtrack”, Eric Clapton’s 1992 release that changed the music trend Unplugged .
I was unaware the Eric Clapton's Unplugged came from The Rainbow Connection. Learn something new everyday, I guess.

Didn't think I had any "punk" records in my collection. I guess I could have used Clash or Social Distortion, but I have decided to select,
Stranger Than Fiction
by Bad Religion
I suppose I picked this one, cause it always seems on my short list for listening. When I grab a dozen CD's for a trip, or whatever; this one always finds it's way in there.
It is their "mainstream" record, one that had (and continues to have) very good sales for the band.
Not as obscure as some of my earlier picks, so I imagine most everyone is familiar with them to some extent, so I will keep the comments to a minimum; that and my computer is a piece of ---- today.
Art Brut are an English and Germanindie rock band. Their debut album, Bang Bang Rock & Roll, was released on 30 May 2005, with its follow up, It's a Bit Complicated, released on 25 June 2007. Named after French painter Jean Dubuffet's definition of Outsider Art -- art by prisoners, loners, the mentally ill, and other marginalized people, and made without thought to imitation or presentation -- South London's Art Brut were tagged by NME as part of the "Art Wave" scene that also includes bands such as Athlete, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party.
I will select in the category of POP, Sharleen Spiteri's Melody. Spiteri is the lead singer for the UK group Texas, but put out this solo effort in 2008.
I think I like it because it has a bit of a 50s-esque flair to it. I tend to like music like that. I find Rilo Kiley is in that same vein.
Stop, I don't love you Anymore
It was You
All the Times I've Cried
Don't Keep me Waiting
Thoughts?
And apologies for the hold up on the pick.
