Some of you would be the worst poker players, salesmen ever
relax, they SHOULD be acting like they don't need to or even want to trade Markstom

That comment is pretty clearly posturing. There is a difference between what you say to the media and behind closed doors.

Yeah, to me it is clear the actions have definitely spoken louder than the words.

I did ask about the Friedman comments and was still reassured that the principle is already in motion. It sounds like it’s determining what additional could move as well, retention almost certainly is included but could see another roster piece from Calgary move though not confirmed.

Less than 10% chance it doesn’t happen, I’m not buying the “flames still think they can be a cup contender” bit, more so I think this is said because no GM is going to come out and publicly say they expect to tank.

What we know:
Markstrom will waive for NJD - So safe to say he views them as a contender
Markstrom wants this to be over as much as the fans do
Markstrom hates the media attention
Markstrom's days in Calgary are numbered

I expect a fun draft day
Thanks for the insights! It’s too bad 10th overall isn’t 100% in the deal yet, but still hopeful!

Max retention on Marky, Pospisil or Mang

For 10 and Holtz. Throw in a cap dump if it's Mangiapane and a mid round pick from CGY like one of the extra 3rds..

Thanks for the info. If its basically done, why not announce it now?

Are they still tinkering with the details? Or just waiting for the SCFs to be over?

It's not done. With Markstrom getting so pissed off the last time, when it gets done, it'll be announced as soon as the NHL has been informed and both teams confirm. This is not the type of deal that stays in the can for the "right time."

Maybe they are close but both sides are probably squeezing as much as they can until draft day when one will likely buckle (Fitz is probably pushing for that Coleman/Pospisil gritty piece he wants or something).

What contending team is trading their starting goalie, with Dan Vladar and a rookie as our next 2 options.

The Lindholm, Hanifin and Tanev trades all came down the pipe between 4pm and 6pm on a Wednesday.

(Toffoli was a Tuesday at 5pm and Zadorov was a Thursday at 4pm)

I think there will be a couple tells that will let people know if this is finalized. We will know if they are still haggling if the retention is a weird numbers like 38%, then we know why it dragged. On the flip side, if anything is leaked during the finals, like if the Oilers manage to win one game, then we will know it was done all along and the Flames leaked it.

Honestly I think it has 100% that the NHL doesn't want anything taking away from the finals so the powers that be are saying to shelve it. Would be interesting to know if there is even anyone at the NHL on standby to process trades.

Or ...

Some guy in Toronto is making things up and this isn't actually an indication of anything going on in Calgary.

Yet people react to media guessing as concrete fact and lose their junk every single day.

Don't get it.

I remember in March, one of my friends who knows closely with Flames management did say the talked about Siegenthaler as a piece coming back in a trade at some point when he heard Markstrom trade gossip.

Not sure if that is a piece the Flames would still be interested in a hypothetical trade with the Devils, but since roster pieces are being discussed just throwing it out there. If they were to take a forward from us, they probably would need to send some cap our way.
