We get a franchise player who will take the highest possible money to stay here and a weak roster around him and we aren't doing anything.

You are cutting a bunch of money in assets going out and the cap is going up almost $10M dollars. You do it all day long. Huberdeau feeding Matthews would make them damn near unstoppable. Nobody in their right mind would not do that deal.

I highly doubt Matthews signs an extension in Calgary

But we have talked about how bad the free agent class is so that freed up money isn't likely to get us a ton of useful pieces.
Matthews had Marner feeding him for much of this time in TO and that wasn't unstoppable.

Should be able to get quite a decent haul for Lindholm, Hanifin, Toffoli and Backlund.
Especially if they retain on any/all of them.
At this point I'd love to see Markstrom dealt too. Might as well go with younger, cheaper goalies if we're doing a major retooling.

I see too much value in holding onto Markstrom for a bit.
If he rebounds, when you go to trade him, his value will be higher - and it can't possibly go lower.
And if he doesn't rebound, he's the perfect tank commander.

Not to mention the market would be weak with Hart and Hellebuyck potentially being available

Exactly. If he keeps playing like he did last year then the Flames are getting top 5 picks lol

Does Conroy make 1.5 trades before the draft: over under?

I’ll have an update today or tomorrow before we pack up for Nashville.

We can get assets for Lindy, Hanifin, TT and Backlund.
We would have to give assets to deal Markstrom I think.
If those four walk, there's really no need to try to get rid of Markstrom this offseason; it's not like his contract is going to hamper our ability to ice a competitive roster.
If he has a good season this year, we can maybe get something for him in the future, and if not we only have to ride out this contract for 3 more seasons in which we most likely will not be close to contending.

This discussion is based on spurs saying he wouldn't do it with an extension in place.

One thing that's really turning me off about sports is these pampered millionaire players who dictate where they get to live while being the most privileged human beings in the country. They're being paid enormous sums of money to play a game and live an absolutely Charmed Life and a lot of them are just turning up their nose to Western canada. #### them all

Players don’t seem to mind the Oilers anymore .
Put a winning product on the ice and (most) players won’t have an issue
The Flames are difunctional and have been for years . Even as fans we complain about the meddlesome owner , terrible facilities , and annoying media
Hopefully this is a wake up call for everyone that this isn’t 1990 anymore . If anything the Flames need to invest more in the little things then more attractive destinations , not less

No it has nothing to do with winning, frankly Edmonton hasn't really done a lot of that either, it has to do with a one a lottery and got me david. Not to sound like Brian Burke but is that option available to us?
