Fantastic interview on Barnburner. Didn’t know he got a Finance degree and briefly worked in the industry. Very smart, well-spoken, classy guy.
When I hear guys like him talk I really wonder how there are so many hazing/bullying horror stories in major junior hockey. He doesn’t sound like someone who would put up with that.
Also based on the interview, don’t be surprised to see sone coaching/advisor hires with Blazers/Rockets connections. Sounds like a tight group.

Dan Lambert would be a very unsurprising choice. Worked with Huska in Kelowna for 5 years and has just recently ended being an assistant coach running the power play and forwards with Nashville for 4 years.

Sounds like he knows the game well and is dedicated to the craft, just hope he has the ability to apply that knowledge, motivate and keep players driven.

Preds had the 27th-ranked Power Play last season.

Yeah, I'm not trying to make Lambert out to be some PP guru, just that he has had some success with it in the past, and he and Huska know each other very well. Would not surprise me in the least to see him hired.

Yup if it's not Tanguay/Love then my guess would be it's Lambert.
Which could be kind of underwhelming TBH.
Over his 4 years the Preds PP sits at 17.1% which was 19th, and they were at 2.93 GF/GP.
Not that they were overly offensive talented teams...but they did have some skilled offensive players.

Over that four-year period the Predators rank #19 in scoring, and have had players in the +1.00 pts/GP range of production only once. In 2021-22 Josi, Duchene and Forsberg all scored +80 pts. In every other season not a single player came even close to 70. I suspect that their levels of skill and depth were significant factors to their powerplay results.

I had forgotten that he played with Iginla and Doan for the Blazers. Some great stories there.
Some very interesting observations about the difficulties in making the jump from coaching in the AHL to the NHL. He gives lots of credit to Gio for his assistance. No doubt in my mind we will see a captain on the Flames this year, Huska sees it as a key role.

Doesn't he play a role in that too though as coach of the offense? Not like he's coaching the Arizona Coyotes.
All these guys seem to have really underperformed the last 4 seasons. Some of that is them getting older for sure...but I would be very hesitant to just say that none of it has to do with the coach that is managing the offense.

Yeah, I don't think it is all about the players, but that is not a great group to begin with.

Mitch Love continues to interview for NHL assistant jobs. Yesterday, he circled back to Calgary to discuss the possibility of joining Ryan Huska’s staff.

I still think it's his best move. He'll be head coach here within 2 years based on history.
