Sanheim would be a guy I target. Right now the Flames are deep-ish on D but with Brodie and Hamonic free agents, that's not going to be the case heading into next season.
I build a package around Frost+Sanheim and maybe a roster forward.
I dunno - just spit balling.
Edit: Myers is also interesting given past history with the Flames.

I think that would be the ballpark of what a Gaudreau deal would look like. I would think Frost/Myers + 2020 1st. If the Flyers say no, move on. The Flames are trending in the right direction, but they are already two to three years from being called a seasoned squad. If you're dealing the most dynamic player on the roster, you have to be thinking a year or two into the future.

Phil Myers and a 1st would be a disastrous return, IMO.
Morgan Frost would have to be included. Sanheim would be a likely target. I also wonder about Bobby Brink or Joel Farabee.
Trading Gaudreau now or soon likely recoups a huge return. A 22-year-old defenseman with 22 NHL GP and a mid-round 1st isn't even close to enough.

My bad. I meant Frost and Myers. The deal as I typed it should get me banned.
The Flyers may say no, but that is what it would take to draw my interest as a GM.

Brink is probably years away, though I do like him as a prospect.
Guys like Frost/Myers/Sanheim are interesting because it doesn't signal a total rebuild but rather potentially pushes the window out wider.
The Flyers are an interesting fit because of the perceived market fit but also they have enough prospect depth that the could potentially pony up a good package.

for me, Frost is a guy I'd absolutely want in any deal. Maybe another forward like Ratcliffe. Sanheim and Myers are also decent shoutouts. Like I said, Phillys cupboards are stacked, they could put together pretty good packages for impact players if they wanted.

Unpopular opinion: Johnny Gaudreau has said before it would be cool to play his whole career here, has his summer home decked out in Flames stuff, has a close relationship with kids he has met through the Flames Foundation, and is probably seeing someone dating wise from the Calgary area. Every time BT and CC talk about Johnny they rave about him. Johnny will sign an 8 year extension and will not be traded.

Not an opinion so much as just an observation. The Flames' two goalies are currently ranked 32nd (Talbot) and 34th (Rittich) in terms of save percentage for goalies having played at least 4 games. Meanwhile the Oilers' goalies are ranked 12th (Koskinen) and 15th (Smith).
That sucks. I like both Flames goalies right now, but those rankings make the goaltending look like a notable part of the reason the Flames are in a wildcard spot.

As for the dating part, I believe he's quite the player at the clubs from stories I've heard

Here's a potentially unpopular opinion. If Jankowski continues to struggle or the Flames are faced with another injury, they should recall Byron Froese. Right-handed shot centre with a lot of experience and leads the Heat in scoring.

I don’t think this will be unpopular but curious if folks agree
BSD is one is the most charismatic, entertaining and marketable players on the team second only, perhaps, to Matthew Tkachuk

Assuming the Flames flat line in the playoffs again I'd expect big changes.
Hall - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Konecny
Still love to see an upgrade on Backlund for 2C
What else would Philly need to add to Konecny to pry Johnny from the Flames?

Would want a kings ransom. Multiple firsts, Konecny, Patrick, Coutier

I would probably not have used those exact words but he is enthusiastic as hell which really makes him easy to cheer for. Gaudreau is the most marketable player on the team because of his style of play and how he has overcome the odds. He has little charisma with the media but kids in particular love watching him play. I’d guess in jersey sales he is first by a wide margin.

Oilers have had the easiest schedule ever...Flames have played 8 playoff teams on the road....lets wait and see how it all shakes down

The Flyers aren't moving Couturier. He's a 6'3" point-per-game centre who's a perennial Selke candidate. And he's 26 and signed to a great deal. If Patrick had developed the way the Flyers hoped, then things might be different. As it is, Couturier is as close to an untouchable player as they have.
I've mused that a deal around Konecny + Frost + a high pick might be what the Flames could realistically get from the Flyers for Gaudreau. But Konecny is having a breakout season (14 pts in 13 games), so that might change the equation.

^^i don’t know about that, I think your selling JG short. That being said, I agree that the Flyers do not trade Coutourier without another centre coming back. For a trade to work with the Flyers, it would have to involve centres and wingers on both sides.
Perhaps something like the Richards/Carter deal, which was actually two separate trades. Personally I think Monaghan and JG is a package deal, and something you do not do unless another team is desperate.
