Too bad he has to wear such an ugly jersey with those pads.
Man, this team needs some new jerseys desperately.

His all white ones were.
The Vaughn Velocities he wore during his Vezina season were classic - I think half the reason for Ramo's resurgent popularity on the board was the Kipper gear he started to wear.
The lightning bolt Vaughns are also great; he wore his best iteration of these in the playoffs against San Jose, with the red insert in the middle.
The Heaton 10s are classic in their own right.
Once Kiprusoff began to wear Bauer gear, that was when his stuff became dull.

Has he always worn pads that small or are they the size the NHL is aiming for after this season? They don't look as wide or high as the others. Or does he like smaller pads?

Which I believe pads should be. White pads are what every goalie should wear IMO. It's harder to pick the five hole when a goalie is wearing white pads.

Goalies themselves disagree. It doesn't make any difference. NHL shooters aren't going to be confused by the color of a pad.

Not true. Patrick Roy has said he liked white pads because it gave him an advantage.
Also Marc Andre Fleury was contacted by an optometrist when he used to wear yellow pads and after the conversation they said he switched to white pads.
A lot of goalies believe the theory that white pads make the shooter miss their shot more frequently.

https://www.thestar.com/sports/hocke...advantage.html
“In the NHL, you can’t pick it up well when the boards are white, the netting is pure white and the white goalie pads just help make the goalie less visible,” Piku said. “It creates an illusion in a split second (that) you see holes and there is no other reason than that.”
Karen Muncey, CEO of Dynamic Edge Sports Vision Training, a company that works with athletes to improve visual skills such as peripheral awareness and hand-eye coordination, said it’s logical that white pads would be an advantage over darker ones.
“It all goes back to that fact that if you’re presenting a dark outline, it gives (scorers) a much better place to not shoot,” she said. “If the pads are dark, they’re going to aim at the holes. So if you present them with a white pad or a little bit of a grey line that mimics the net behind them, with that fast rush up they have much less time to concentrate on the five-hole or other holes that are being presented.”

If Elliott believes that his colored pads give him an advantage and causes the shooters to miss more, are you going to tell him he's wrong?
Athletes, especially goalies, are a very superstitious bunch they believe what they want to believe because they feel it gives them an advantage... Let them
That being said, I really like the set... looking forward to seeing the set on the ice

Patrick Roy
He won Stanley Cups in all three of those kits.
Roberto Luongo
Luongo has only posted a sub .913 save % once since 2000.
When JS Giguere won the Conn Smythe, he was dressed like this.
Meanwhile, one half of our tire fire goalie tandem spent most of three years wearing these.
Tim Thomas wore white when he threw up a .940 save % and won the Conn Smythe but I'll not let something that undermines my argument prevent me from posting this.
Good goalies stop the puck. If they prefer white and that gets them through the day, fine. But any benefits gained are psychological on behalf of the goalie. White pads are not making Tyler Seguin's life more difficult.

I don't think it would make any sort of statistically significant difference, goal-wise. But I also think there's value in listening to the science in regards to these types of things. Makes sense to listen to people who study eyes. But there's no way to actually measure it's success.
If it keeps one goal out over an antire career, maybe a goalie decides it's worth it. Some people like a little more flair and that's cool too.
