Last game made me wish we had some more snipers with a strong wrist shot, everything about the flames seemed weak. We were passing too much because it looked like no one was confident in their shot along with a few stupid drop passes, etc. And then there was too many times where I wished we just shot and then the flames did shoot, only for it to be a muffin.

I suppose, at any rate, definitely need to get off to better starts in the opening period and the top line needs to be way better.

I would expect that's a larger indicator of the lead Vancouver had.
Outside of a few shifts in the second and third period, Vancouver completely outmatched Calgary. HIller was forced to come up huge even in a 3-0 game.
Calgary only had a couple of grade A chances for the whole game. That save off Gaudreau being the best chance Calgary had.
Frankly, with a 3-0 lead, Vancouver was content to work the puck safely through the neutral zone and sat back defensively in their own end blocking shots and stifling passes.
Calgary was twice as competitive in game 1 as game 2.

Bieksa loves faking a jab and leading with a hook. Ferland better be ready for that. From what i've seen from his junior fights, Ferland can take a punch and he can really deliver a knockout. So if he can withstand Bieksa's initial flurry, look out!

For sure, but even in game 1 the Flames were making a lot of mistakes that gave Vancouver chances. I still feel like we stole that first game.
We have to be better. Period. As fans it's hard to be objective (especially given how the game was officiated last night) but the fact of the matter is we are letting Vancouver dictate the flow right now. And we saw the outcome of that.

I thought Game 1 was relatively even, although Vancouver still played better for most of the game...we just finished it well. Game 2, on the other hand, was one of those games you knew the Flames were going to lose right off the bat.
Coming home 1-1 is what we all hoped for, but so far Vancouver has clearly been the better team in my eyes. Calgary needs to step it up.

Probably not until tomorrow. The league will take some time to evaluate this, especially with the Flames appealing Engelland's instigator.
Speaking of suspensions, apparently Dorsett said a referee told Hamhuis to go in and try to calm things down. If that is true, then that referee should be kicked out of the playoffs himself. I can't think of many things that a referee can actively do to make a bad situation more dangerous than to actively tell a player to be third man in.

The weird thing to me is, why would he get a game misconduct for doing what they say the Ref asked him to do?

Perhaps assessed by the other referee. But yeah, that doesn't jive.

It's BS sob story to try to make sure Hamhuis escapes further (worthy) suspension.
No way would a ref deputize a player to be a 5th official.

So here's my whole issue with Hamuis:
He says that Deryk Engelland needed to be restrained.
1. Why the hell did Dorrset pick that fight then!!!!!?????
2. There was a REFEREE standing 3 feet away (let's assume he was going to intervene if it got out of hand) ready to intervene.
3. If no ref was going to step in on the Richarson-Stajan fight then NO ONE should step in on the Dorrset-Engelland fight.
So this is my question to Mr. Hamhuis.
"Who were you protecting when you decided to jump in?"
Dorrset? No he was still standing and going good (even had the energy to cheap shot Engelland later)
Engelland? Nope
So if Hamhuis really wants to be a good guy then why does he skate right by Stajan and Richardson?
Hamhuis should not be the person to have to restrain anyone. I agree he was a 3rd man in and should have gotten a suspension, but it the the referees fault that Hamhuis did what he did. Hamhuis is a ####, Dorrset and Richarson too but its the referees job to stop fights if they get out of hand. Not Hamhuis.
If you really have to suspend Engelland go ahead, but Dorrset did the exact same things (and worse) that Engelland did. And if Engelland goes, Hamhuis goes as well.
The only reason that situation ever happened was due to the refs. Change the style of reffing and you won't have these situations to deal with for the rest of the series.
So good luck NHL! Have fun dealing with suspensions and injuries and fines after today all because you let your refs stand by and let players go savage on other players.

And still not enough about Richardson's forearm and elbow while on the ground with Stajan.
Enforcers around the league all watched that, and whatever you think about the "code", that was a clear breach of it (backed up by a flimsy story of a supposed Stajan eye gouge) so Richardson will have his hands full next year.
That should've been a match penalty right there and then, and an automatic next game suspension from that.

Well, right now he's showing on the gamesheet as having only one game misconduct, so Hamhuis isn't likely to be suspended anyway. The only guy looking at missing game three right now is Engelland.

Captain I really enjoy your takes.
Agreed the split was the key.
We can certainly win both games at the Dome. And then it's over.

McKenzie agrees...
@TSNBobMcKenzie
I may have forgotten to mention that, for now anyway, it doesn't look like anybody other than Engelland is in danger of being suspended.
