Yeah he was on the pre-tournament roster, but he was only a placeholder for when more NHLers became available.

Looking at the schedule, I'd say it's not very likely that Bennett plays in this coming Sunday's game either. Again 3rd game in 3 days (this time and afternoon road game after an eveing road game the night before), and a good possibility that North Bay (sunday's opponent) is their first round playoff opponent.

OHL needs a copy editor/fact-checker:
"Bennett, an 18-year-old from Holland Landing, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Frontenacs. Since returning to action in late February, the Flames third overall pick in 2014 has scored 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in nine games."

I'm surprised he's getting voted for these categories after only playing 8-9 games.
He's that good. Imagine what he could do after a whole season.

Can't really fault them there. Even if they had a fact checker, it's not like they would believe him if they said Draisaitl was taken before Bennett.

But can't we take him with 8 games to go help us for the playoff push, without him losing his rookie season status?

Bennett keeps his "rookie" status until he is 26-years-old, or has played in 25 NHL games. But I don't think that is what you are asking.
· Bennett's ELC does not kick in until he has played in 10 NHL games in either or both the regular season or the playoffs.
· Bennett can no longer be added to the NHL lineup until his contracted status with Kingston has ended for the season, which is once they have been eliminated from the playoffs, or have won the Memorial Cup.
· The Flames could choose to add Bennett as an emergency callup, but only if they can show that the roster has suffered debilitated losses enough to make it impossible for them to ice a full starting lineup.
So then, yes, Bennett keeps his rookie status for next year. No, Bennett will not be available to join the Flames for the late season stretch outside of the extremely unlikelihood as an emergency callup. Yes, Bennett can be added to the Flames roster if they are still playing in the playoffs once his season ends, but that would also immediately begin the 10 game countdown to the activation of his ELC.

I hope he has wheels. The most prolific hitters in the NHL aren't monsters but they can skate.

They do it by conference.. so Bennett and McDavid are in different polls. (McDavid was 1st in best skater, best playmaker and best stickhandler in his conference).

Sam Bennett didn’t hide his disappointment when the Calgary Flames sent him on his way back to the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs.
After all, after missing most of the season due to shoulder surgery in October but having worked his way to top shape, he hoped to get a look from the club instead of heading to the junior ranks.
Credit the team’s 2014 first-round draft pick for channelling those emotions the right way, by tearing up the OHL with 11 goals and 21 points in nine games.
“I think as soon as I got playing again, that disappointment got out of my head,” said Bennett, whose team will finish its regular season this weekend. “Now I’m just worried about Kingston and about our playoffs this year. The goal is to play in the NHL as soon as possible, and whenever I get my next shot, I’m definitely going to make the most of it.”
|

Through his short stint, Bennett has already been receiving plenty of accolades. Not only was he the OHL’s player of the week, but he was also named the Eastern Conference’s smartest player for the second-consecutive season and third-best stickhandler in the annual Coaches Poll.
To Conroy, those attributes pale to what he believes is Bennett’s biggest strength: his competitiveness.
“It’s almost to a point where, at times, I want him to learn to protect himself a little more, not take a big hit to make a play every period,” Conroy said. “He’ll hang on to the puck so long, beat guys two or three times, and then guys get upset and try to run him over. Then, he’ll run them back.
“But he only knows one way to play, and that’s the way he’ll play.”

Not Sam Bennett's best period but even when that happens, he's still in on numerous chances.
