I'm as traditional as the next guy, but maybe it's time do remove the anthems from pro sports unless the national team is playing.

I've always thought of it as a weird tradition, of course that comes from a swedish perspective, but still.

Help, save, whatever.
Didn't they used to play the national anthem before movies too? Seem like a tradition that should have died out in the '60s.

Perfect.
....with a force-fed country twang that made our rendition of the anthem cringe worthy and, IMO, the worst in major professional sports.
SUPER relieved to hear we get another voice this year.

Imagine thinking that the Canucks have a better anthem singer than George Canyon.
Seriously, worst in all of pro sports? I genuinely don't believe it.

Let's be honest: EVERY rendition of EVERY national anthem ever is "cringe worthy."
Give me Canyon's toaster-twangy cheesy rapid-fire version over one that lasts for two or three minutes every day of the week.

Disagree. The Canadian National Anthem is beautiful and often makes me emotional for no reason other than national pride and how awesome it is.
The only time it's cringe-worthy is when opera man out of Vancouver "sings" it.

Does he still do it? Last I saw it they'd switched over to an asian woman.

He doesn't even sing all of it. The Canucks should only pay him 2/3 of his wage.

I didn't mind the country-fied angle one bit, it was the organ that made it bad. Canyon was fine

Drop the organ! Hearing the crowd sing along with the national anthem is heartwarming. Sorry Willie Joosen, but you wreck it.

All I can get
He did attempt to secure a nomination in a local (High River) riding to no avail, so I think we've seen where his future career ambitions lay. He's doing a favour for someone by doing the parachute candidate thing.
I doubt he loses his regular Saddledome gig. He'll miss the opening part of the season with campaigning, but I don't think he's out of a job.
