Is the 36th Street NE widening and reconstruction still on schedule to open soon? It was originally mid August, and we are getting close to that.

Bunk, is the mayor concerned with the 2 crazies on 6th ave and 2nd street throwing their support behind a new candidate?
Was by there yesterday and as opposed to them yelling at people and ridiculing them for being bad Canadians, they were sporting new BBQ aprons supporting some other nut job for mayor.

Funny thing is, we had an office lunch yesterday and Miley Cyrus was discussed at length. The reaction all around I think was of bemused astonishment. We also watched the eerily accurate Onion clip from 2008 predicting her depletion of all entertainment value by 2013.

Just for clarity, I'm not using this thread for anything campaign related. After work hours I can chat about election stuff in the Municipal Election 2013 thread.

Sorry, missed this as well. No I don't think there's anything formal. I think it's probably possible to request the Mayor write a letter acknowledging such a thing - as some organizations or individuals do for significant milestones.

Two questions for you Bunk:
- When the City (i.e. Roads Department) is reviewing how well an intersection is operating, is the identification of intersections, even the simplest ones, that can be upgraded/switched to roundabouts part of the standard review process?
- When the City decides to build or upgrade a road in a suburban location, is the identification of corridors that could support segregated cycle lanes part of the standard design process?
In regards to the second question, I think Sky View Ranch and Metis Trail are good examples. The eventual completion of the twinning of Metis Trail could provide an excellent opportunity to create a cycle corridor that could be used by a variety of users (e.g. commuters and shoppers). Further, if the collector streets in Sky View Ranch were built with either protected or unprotected cycle lanes, the Metis Trail cycle corridor could easily have been fed by the collection network in Sky View Ranch.

I did put an inquiry in, but didn't hear back. Apologies, let me try again.

1. I don't think so on roadways larger than a local collector.
2. The new complete street guides have brand new right of ways for all road types. You can see that local primary collectors will have a 2m width bike lane in both directions
You're right, Metis has plenty of space to accommodate a bike corridor.

If I remember correctly, usage of the Complete Streets Guide is not yet compulsory. Is adherence going to become mandatory in the future? As the current copy is the just the interim guide, I guess it could be case of waiting on a final copy.

It is currently being applied to all new subdivision designs. It hasn't been 100% finalized (still called interim), but it certainly is being used as the new standard.

Not really a question for you Bunk, but pass along some kudos to the Roads group for changing the Heritage Drive / Heritage Meadows / Glendeer Circle intersection while they were already fixing up Heritage after the flood. Right turning traffic going to Glenmore has their own lane now instead of the old yield. There was never enough traffic on EB Heritage to need two lanes through the intersection anyways. It so much better operationally!

I noticed they are replacing the pedestrian pathway along Parkdale Drive NW. Was this a result of the flood or was this started before the flood happened? I was just surprised to see work happening there as that route has other options, with both a bicycle path and a regular sidewalk in addition to the pedestrian path, and there is so much pathway repair work that needs to be done elsewhere in the city.

Parkdale Drive? Do you mean Parkdale Blvd or 29th st? Can you be more specific with the location?

Excellent. I don't recall seeing the lanes in Sky View but it might be a case of them applying for everything before these standards started to become applied.
Thanks for you help Bunk!
