Montee Ball grew up a huge Broncos fan. Just watched his press conference on denverbroncos.com . Just have a great feeling about this pick. Think I'm going to love this guy.

3rd rounder Kavon Webster said Peyton Manning texted him the night he was picked and said "time to go to work" Denver media erupts in laughter.

Most Jets fans, except those with the irrational hatred for him, think he would be able to carve out a career as a TE or a FB. I agree with them. I like Tebow, but he's not a good QB. I think he'd help a team out as a FB. He's a good strong athlete. Goes hard on every play. If he wants to stay in the NFL that's his best bet.

Not sure where to put this or if anyone else finds it funny, but my favourite part of this whole thing is Jason La Canfora, a NFL insider for CBS, quoting an anonymous source that says Tebow would have to fight for a backup spot if he goes to Canada:

Quote:
"He would be in a learning program behind Anthony," the source said
No need for anonymous sources. Jim Popp said that publicly.

49ers 4th round pick, Quinton Patton, bought himself a ticket and flew to SF so he could get started training with the team. The problem is he didn't know that the NFL does not allow rookies to go to team facilities until rookie training camp (well, the 24 hours after the draft they are allowed, for team introductions and so on). So when Patton called Coach Harbaugh and said, "I'm here" it took a minute to figure out that the kid had flown to SF, rented a car and was trying to get to the training facility. Harbugh had to tell him to fly home until rookie camp started up.

The team then called the kids agent, and the agent said Patton had mentioned flying out but the agent thought it was just a joke.

The 49ers coaching staff are pretty happy about how eager this draft pick is.

My son was hoping the Vikings would snag Patton. Gotta love that kind of eagerness!

Ronde Barbe officially retires. Right there with Derrick Brooks as the greatest Buccaneer ever, and definitely with the greatest play in Bucs history, the Vet closing pick 6 to send them to the Super Bowl. Thanks for everything Ronde, see you in the Hall of Fame.

if you wanted to make a documentary on how to destroy a career in less than 12 months, former detroit lions receiver titus young has provided all of the elements. As first reported tuesday evening by paula pasche of the oakland press, young was arrested twice in a span of 15 hours last weekend in southern california.

The first was for suspicion of driving under the influence and the second was for burglary because young had jumped the fence of an impound lot and was attempting to retrieve his car.

I'm not sure the lions' decision to draft young in 2011 looks any different this morning than it did last week. They've already released him, eating the $1.8 million signing bonus they paid him as well as the value of the second-round draft choice they used to acquire him. It was already a disastrous decision.

(well, maybe not almost, but the idea was considered)
Elway was also interested in Seattle, and obviously Seattle's feeling was mutual. But couldn't get a deal done, then traded down out of #2 and missed out on Dickerson, getting Curt Warner instead.

Random fact: I met John Elway on our trip to Hawaii in January, staying at the same hotel, us both out in the pool area. Him, Del Rio and John Fox were all there together (ProBowl weekend, but they clearly didn't go). Nice guy, not going to bother someone on vacation but exchanged a few football words.

Embarrassed that he caught two TD's, including the game winning one at the end of the game against SEA last year. This was before SEA got on a roll, and still have Wilson on a strict playbook, and lost on last minute drives to STL, PHX, MIA and DET. Any one of those go the other way and Seattle hosts a divisional game and gets a bye and maybe a different ending to the season. Browner should've covered him better, it was a deep in the redzone and he gave him too much space.

That's probably the highlight of Young's career and set him on his path of self destruction. Later in the year last year, he's the guy that lined up wrong and ran routes wrong intentionally to protest not getting the ball.

Curt Warner was a stud. Had he not blown out that knee he could've been one of the all time greats. Pretty sure he's a prominent car dealership owner in the Seattle area.

Glad to hear Elway was nice to you. I've always wondered what kind of guy he was toward the fans. Haven't heard much either way.

The new 49ers stadium being built in Santa Clara will be called "Levi's Stadium"

Quote:
"Levi's jeans were designed for the 49ers during the gold rush," 49ers CEO Jed York said Wednesday. "It was a good fit for them then and it's a good fit today."

York and Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh announced the naming-rights agreement during a press conference at Levi's Plaza in San Francisco. The 20-year, $220 million deal ranks as the fourth-highest among stadium naming-rights deals at $11 million annually.

Nothing wrong with Warner, but like missing out on Bledsoe (Seattle beat NE during the season thus "won" the tiebreaker as they both had horrid 3-13 (I think) records)and taking Mirer, missing out of Elway, or Dickerson, would've made that team a lot better.

Was playing with our little girl in the pool and had to do a double and triple take that it was him. He was just reading the paper with the wife not more then 10 feet away, and just didn't notice him for the previous 5 minutes I was already there.

Pretty quiet at that pool, and at the resort in general, high end resort (long story how/why we were staying there) and after about 10 minutes, got out of the pool and just said "hello Mr. Elway, don't want to bother you while on vacation but congrats on a good season" type stuff, and he was engaging, saying yeah, tough to not go any further. I said, yeah, got a buddy who'd love to talk your ear off about the Broncos, but I'm a Seahawks fan and know how that feels to lose somewhat unexpectedly. He said yeah, Wilson looks to be the real deal and will be a good guy from here on in. Thanked him for his time and moved on.

Bigger guy, sounds like he smokes a fair number of cigs or got hit in the throat. Saw the odd kid go up to him after that for a picture or autograph, but he didn't get hounded at that place as he would've at a lot of places, which is why he's there at that place.

As said, the next night him, Fox and Del Rio with their wives were eating in the restaurant, right at the front, I assume because it meant that the front of the house staff and hostesses could make sure they weren't interrupted by fans (harder to control if they are in the back)...as we walked past, a group of guys walking out tried to take pictures, and the hostess told them to delete the picture. I snapped a shot while waiting to be seated, after seeing this, so pretended to snap a pic of the family in the lower corner, but got a pic of all of them eating instead.

Cheerio/OILFAN #81, why are fellow Colt fans so ticked about A.Q. Shipley being traded to the Ravens? The guy had 5 starts last year and when/if he makes the roster it will be his 4th team in 5 years in the league. What is so good about the guy that would make Colts fans ticked off?

A lot of of Colts fans wanted them to cut Satele and play Shipley at C because they believed he was a better player. Personally I'm meh on both of them so picking up an extra pick for next season is great because we were down 2 and not likely to get any comp picks. With holmes getting drafted and Satele being the de facto starter there just wasn't room for Shipley. Do you know what the details of the pick the Colts are receiving is?

A conditional 2014 draft pick. Conditions haven't be revealed. More then likely a 7th rounder though, could be upgraded to a 6th rounder depending on how he plays or what not.

n/m
EDIT: Yahoo is wrong, Ravens writer says it's a 7th if he makes the team. Something for nothing though I guess,

Titus Young is one heck of a dude.

Quote:
For the third time in a week, former Lions wide receiver Titus Young is in trouble with the law.

Young was arrested around 11:30 p.m. Friday in San Clemente, Calif. after police say he broke into a home on the 3700 block of Calle Casino, according to Lt. Joe Balicki of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

When officers arrived at the home, Young fled on foot, and after a brief pursuit, he fought with the officers, Balicki said Sunday.

"There was a brief struggle," he said. "He wanted to fight with the deputies. They ended up subduing him."

Young has been charged with burglary, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. As of 1 p.m. Sunday, he was still in custody with bail set at $75,000.
Neither Young nor the officers were injured in the struggle, Balicki said.
