I am not surprised by this news, just disappointed by it.
That being said, Janssen has done well as a closer.

Unbelievable how brutal their luck has been this year with pitchers. Just unreal.

Even if Santos does not recover fully, it's not like Molina is doing anything and you have to take that kind of risk whenever you have the chance. Still sucks though. Hopefully this isn't Sirotka 2.0

This season has just become a mess due to all the injuries, its getting ridiculous.
Guess at least this gives everyone a chance to see what Gose can do at the big league level.

So I guess inflammation is good news? It's not a tear or anything else so that's positive right?

It doesn't always mean it's good news. Usually with fresh injuries there will be swelling and sometimes due to the swelling it's hard to clearly see the full extent of the injury. Especially around the wrist area with small bones and all the tendons and ligaments involved.

Not the one...

Overbay's wrist injury nagged him for years, and Joey Bats is going to be frothing to get back.

Continuing the discussion from the Yankees series.
The Jays are likely going to be in sell mode, and hopefully can get nice returns for the players mentioned if they should choose to trade a few of them.
Oliver with another player could get a valuable player in return. I am not sure if JPA has any real trade value, below average defensively, and despite potential power he might never hit for a good average.

JPA would get a pretty good return I'm sure. His defence isn't terrible, but his bat to me (not based on statistics) is above average for catchers. I'd avoid dealing him, but I'm sure they would get a blue chipper in return.

I think you pretty much have to make a move with him or D'Arnaud in the next 6 months unfortunately... not that it's a bad spot to be in but I don't think you can keep D'Arnaud in AAA next year the way he hit this year (assuming he's healthy).
Probably wishful thinking but if they could package him, Snider and a pitching prospect for Upton I'd say jump on it, it would give them a world series calibre outfield IMO.
Also would like to see them make a swap with the Astros... no team in the league deeper at 2B right now, an amazing starter and 2 of the best second base prospects in the game and lots of needs, makes sense to swap with them as that is pretty much the only real weak spot for the Jays going forward in the field.

Something interesting happened. Reports that Snider homered in his first AB for Las Vegas. Next time at bat he was lifted for a pinch hitter.
Wonder what is up.

Lawrie to the DL would make the most sense, if it was a trade it would be announced by now

If he does get recalled, who is out of the lineup? Gotta think Davis, Gose only got 1 game and a couple of innings in, would be a bad idea to send him down in my opinion.
Or hell, it could mean they trading someone, including Snider, and wanted to give him a proper goodbye.
I guess we will find out what happens with ole Lunchbox soon.

Jays/Astros complete 10 player deal - Cordero, Francisco, Musgrove, Wojciewchowski, Rollins, C. Perez for Lyon, Happ, D. Carpenter.
Quote:
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 20 at 9:48am CST]
The Astros and Blue Jays have completed a ten-player trade, the teams announced. The Astros obtain seven players from Toronto: Major Leaguers Francisco Cordero and Ben Francisco, minor leaguers Joe Musgrove, Asher Wojciechowski, David Rollins and Carlos Perez, and a player to be named. The Astros send Brandon Lyon, J.A. Happ and David Carpenter to Toronto in the trade.
“Once again we are adding depth to our minor league system with quality young players," GM Jeff Luhnow said in a team press release. "We really feel this will help us moving forward and are extremely excited about the players we’ve added to our organization.”
Cordero and Francisco don't have assurances of staying with the Astros beyond 2012. Cordero, 37, has a 5.77 ERA with 6.8 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 34 1/3 innings this year. He signed a one-year deal with a base salary of $4.5MM before the season. Francisco, 30, earns $1.54MM this year and will be arbitration eligible again this coming offseason. He posted a .240/.296/.380 batting line in Toronto and battled a hamstring injury, so he could be considered a non-tender candidate.

Jays just completed a 10 player trade with Houston.
http://blogs.thescore.com/djf/
To Houston: Ben Francisco, Francisco Cordero, and prospects Asher Wojciechowski, Joe Musgrove, David Rollins and Carlos Perez.
To Blue Jays: J.A. Happ, Brandon Lyon, and David Carpenter
Don't know much about Carpenter but Lyon should be a boost to the Jays pen.
J.A Happ is a below average starting pitcher but he'll eat some much needed innings.
Overall not a lot that the Jays gave up. At first glance it looks like this is a bit of a band-aid solution to keep the team in the race

Happ is okay
Lyon is decent
Carpenter could be crap or could be decent
Francisco and Cordero are DFA material, Woj max potential is a reliever, and rollins is meh
So basically it's Musgrove + Perez for the 3 players. I'm not thrilled with it, but it will help for the time being I guess. Seems kind of a stupid trade because we aren't going anywhere this year.

Actually Happ has put together a pretty nice string of starts outside of two, where he got shelled by San Francisco and Milwaukee. Like Howard said, should be a good inning eater. One thing I noticed when looking up all three of their stats, is that all of them are near the K/IP mark.
I like the swap of Cordero/Lyon as well... Don't know much about Carpenter. When it came up on MLBTR - I thought for sure we were getting Wandy Rodriguez.

Interesting trade, I guess getting rid of Cordero was a big factor here as Happ will eat some innings, but we gave up prospects.
Outside of this trade, anyone else feel Bautista's injury was a blessing in disguise? Now, we can fall out of the race rapidly while he's gone and focus on challenging next season without he and the fans pushing to make moves to get us in the playoffs this year.
