Apparently the Jays are working on multi year deals on both Janssen and Morrow.

AA has lost his mind. Blue Jays absolutely doing this on the cheap.

How does "doing this on the cheap" equal losing his mind? This was the plan all along.
I'm past the point of hoping for a big trade now and I'd rather see us keep our prospects and develop them rather then give them up for an average player.

I like it, a 25th man that can play all infield positions and (presumably) be a good clubhouse guy for the "feisty" members of the clubhouse.

I'm a big fan of the signing. Obviously he's not going to be an everyday player with the team, but how can his fielding abilities during practice not help as a player/mentor for the younger guys? Normally I think the mentor aspect is overrated, but our guys are still really young, and I think a down to earth HOFer will definitely help with some tips. How can anyone be upset with him being a bench guy?

If that want him as a bench guy, sign him as bench coach!

Vizquel even at 44 is still a very good defensive player. Better than McCoy, and we could definitely flip him in July if another team wants a good 9th inning replacement player.

That's silly! We have an excellent infield coach.

This is only assuming he actually makes the roster... so I'll wait before giving my opinion.

Vizquel still carries a more lethal bat than John McDonald does too. Likely be a pretty good guy to have around for younger infielders to learn from on a daily basis.

the Jays announced Tuesday that they have signed right-hander Brandon Morrow to a three-year contract worth $20 million, plus a $10 million option for 2015.
http://www.thestar.com/article/11201...or-three-years
Seems as though they are going to remain committed to Mr Morrow. Thats a big deal.
just reliever Casey Janssen remainins among arbitration-eligible players. The remaining major-league players led by J.P. Arencibia, Brett Lawrie and Brett Cecil are under club control with less than three years of major-league service. The Jays’ payroll is expected to be around $81 million.

Minor league contract.
It's essentially a spring training tryout - nothing to see here.
And the Blues Jays "doing this on the cheap" comment just reeks of ignorance to the situation. Go look up how much cash the Jays have paid to get deals done ($6 million for Halladay to ensure desired prospects were included, $5 million to dump Wells, $10 million on Teahan's contract to acquire Rasmus), how much they've spent over-slot on the draft the past two seasons, and how much they've spent on international free agents (~$8 million the last two years).
The Jays have the money to spend and are spending it. They're just spending it wisely instead of overpaying free agents.

Eventually they'll have to overpay for free agents (barring an extreme case of good luck) if they want to sustainably succeed. The new CBA practically ensures it considering that it removed a lot of the player development things that lower payroll budget teams used to team build (Supplimental Comp. picks, overslot bonuses, unlimited dollar IFA signings). Just gotta find the right free agents to overpay on.
On: Omar Vizquel - It's just a minor league deal. I'd like him more as a mentor for Hechevarria then as a utility infielder at the big league level so I kind of hope he's willing to play in Vegas.
On: Morrow Extension - Looks like a decent deal, a bit of risk on both sides of it. Glad to have him locked up for the extra year or two.
