Godzilla Minus One is absolutely fantastic. Right there with Spider-Verse, Talk to Me, and Oppenheimer for my favourite movie of the year. I would say it's the best movie of it's kind (kaiju movies), a genre which has seen its ups and downs. It was a very compelling story, and I actually cared for the human characters. It's very well told, and a much watch for the 70th anniversary. Highly recommended!

Just got back from Godzilla Minus One with my son as well. We're big, big monster movie fans and it was our favourite. It blows the Legendary films out of the water.

Well worth seeing in the theatre if you get a chance.

You look at his filmography and along with the good projects you mention, there's a lot of crap. San Andreas, Spiderman 2, Jungle Cruise, Lady in the Water...
Spider-Man 2 wasn't crap, but Giamatti's role was very undercooked.

The Holdovers was great, skirted with being sappy and predictable but overall was well written and incredibly acted. Very enjoyable, one of the better movies I've seen this year.

Godzilla Minus One tomorrow, looking forward to that.

The new hunger games movie was def worth the price of admission. I've read all the books and have always liked the movies. If you were a fan of the previous ones, you'll enjoy this.

Saw it last Sunday and really enjoyed it. Some interesting insight into the evolution of the games and Snow.

Was just looking to see if there would be a sequel, but seems this was a “one off” book. I’m sure they could create more material if this one does well, since there are 63 years between stories.

Wife and I watched Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny.

Better than the last one, is all I can say.

The movie reminded me of one of the reasons to hate movies.
Villains can never be real life. In real life, after shooting Indy, they would have shot him a couple of more times in the head, for good measure.

What idiot would shoot an old man in the chest, then make the effort to drag him around everywhere? They didn't need him for anything. The kid would have been eliminated, too. He was also dead weight.

That's the action movie formula where the main villain catches the hero and has him/her tied to a chair. Roughs him/her up a bit only to walk out the door and tell his cronies finish him/her off. Nearly every action movie has as scene of this type designed to create tension and also allow the hero escape for the inevitable faceoff with a villain at the end of the film.

I know they have to do it, but sometimes it throws me off when it's so obvious, like in the Indiana Jones movie. just so unbelievable, it took me out of the movie.

Would probably have made a better last 3rd if they just shot Jones in the head and then have Helena Shaw finish off the action.
Jones wasn't needed in the rest of the movie anyway.

It was refreshing in the Kingsman when the Colin Firth character survived the church battle just to be shot in the face by the bad guy. Then you at least might really get invested in the movie knowing anything is on the table.

Kingsman was such a great standalone movie that I just pretend the sequel never happened.

It is a part of what made Game of Thrones so infectious. When a character was in a pinch, you really felt they were in danger.

I get folks want to see a good guy win, but I want to be able to pretend that they won't.

Yeah but they did it two 2 guys in the first two seasons, got off the books and stopped doing it. First one was stunt casting, second was surprising. then it was a bunch of red shirts dying.

Dial of Destiny was pretty fun. It's what Indiana Jones is, not too much more not too much less. Some people forget that Lucasfilms target audience is and always has been 13 year old boys, Star Wars, Willow, Indian Jones... that's the level of storytelling we should expect from them. It always leaves you preferring the content that existed before you were 14.

This describes most great movies nowadays TBH. The Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean come to mind as well.

I just discovered The Last Starfighter (1984) free on YouTube (apparently the movie rights are somewhat up in the air), and oh my gods I might have just died of nostalgia

I just loved this film as a kid, and to my delight it holds up quite well for what it is: extremely derivative yet well made eighties entertainment, and the special effects are pretty good for this time and budget.

I honestly can't be that objective about this movie, but if there's anyone else on the forum who liked this as a kid, now you too know you can watch it on YouTube. And if anyone else wants to watch an almost prototypical eighties scifi/adventure you haven't seen before, The Last Starfighter is worth checking out.

It's basically The Magnificent Seven (or Seven Samurai) meets A New Hope, made for a teenage audience.

I may or may not have the DVD for this movie... <.< >.>

It's true, they stopped, and consequently the show got worse and worse.

I have the 40th anniversary edition blu-ray for this movie. My dad introduced it to me when I was a kid and it stuck with me, all-time classic.

Also instilled a fear of stuff hiding in my vehicle backseat, for life. I always check back there when I get in to my car at night, lol.

This one is a forgotten gem for me. I've seen it as a kid, I loved it but... it's been so long that I can't remember it. I'm definitely checking it out.
