I wonder if The all star game affects payers views of their own team. You are in a bubble during the NHL season with your own team. Then you a week off and hang out with guys who are having fun playing hockey.
That's what I was thinking... that's why when someone commented that "Peters should bench Connor and Leon" - I suggested he should instead show them how a true coach and team ran - maybe Connor would go back to Edmonton and request a trade out of there.

Based on that photo of Connor, I would say 'Yes.'
Because he has to leave San Jose and go straight back to Hell.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Screw that....I'd be triple shifting those idiots and seeing them play 30+ minutes.
Every other GM and Coach whose players were spared playing in that game would send him a Gift Basket.
"Dear Bill, Thanks for giving our players the rest we couldnt.
-Regards, everyone (except Kevin, he refused to pitch in for the edible arrangement)"

if the Oilers didn't luck into McDavid and instead drafted Strome, they might finish with a worse record than the expansion Senators did. Think of how many games they have won this year when Mcdavid hasn't scored. now that would have been an awesome scenario
I have a confession to make ... in the 80’s I despised, nay , loathed the Oilers.
However lately I have become a huge fan, their ineptitude, and outright incompetence at being a proficient NHL franchise has given me great joy and a zen type of peacefulness that could only be equaled by pure spiritual enlightenment.
So it is with a great spiritual uplifting attitude I would like to thank the Edmonton Oilers for the gift of a soul of salvation.
May you always be “No Good” so that countless others may enjoy the euphoria.

The Oilers are great Entertainment, no doubt about that.
Everything about them provides entertainment value up to and including them bilking the hell out of their fans and residents of their own City while providing no real value.
They're the snakeoil salesmen of Professional Sport.
"We're a Professional Hockey Team! We swear! Super serious!"
The Washington Generals are in absolute awe of the Edmonton Oilers.
"How do they get away with charging money for this? Daaaaaamn!"

Made me smile today listening to the radio and they mentioned Gretzky was the head amateur scout for the Bruins, who with 3 picks in a row some how managed to not land Barzal, Chabot, or any of the great player picked shortly after Boston picked. That guy is responsible for replenishing the Oiler pipeline.
he also admitted to drafting a player in the 1st round who they expected to top out as a 3rd liner.
Quote:
The Bruins essentially admitted that to their fans on Friday at the NHL Draft after they selected center Trent Frederic with the 29th overall pick. Frederic, who is committed to the University of Wisconsin, was ranked outside the top 50 by many scouts and draft experts. The pick was almost universally regarded as a major reach.
The problem with the pick, however, isn’t that the Bruins drafted a guy that the “experts” said was only a third-line player. It’s that they agree with them. They took a first-round pick, which should net you a player with big upside 100 percent of the time, and admitted they used it on a player destined to be a bottom-six forward. They did that, on purpose.
“[Frederic] is not going to be a top-two-line guy, we know that,” Bruins director of amateur scouting Keith Gretzky told reporters at the draft, according to Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald. “But he has some jam. He plays hard with the penalty minutes. We were fortunate to get him. We believed he was our next guy and we really liked the projection of him as a staff. Everybody raved about him, his character is outstanding. He’s an athlete.”

In games in which McMullet has not scored a goal, the Oilers have a 7-16-2 record.
McFranchise has been held off the scoresheet altogether in seven games this season. The Oilers are 1-6-0, and have scored eight goals. Their only win was 1-0 in overtime.

Kind of late to post but if you can, tune into CBC radio one Edmonton. They are currently talking about why Edmonton is so bad and why Calgary is doing so well as their talking point.
Not sure if the show can be replayed or not, but it's worth a listen if you can.
Times like this should spur on a look back at the recent decade + of Oilers hockey:

Just looking at this post from the first page of this thread, and thought I would see how they are doing. They are currently at 127 goals as a team in 50 games, or 2.54 goals per game, on track for 208 goals. To get the remaining 189 goals they would need to average 5.9 goals a game over the last 32 games, or conversely, would need another 74 games in this season to reach that number at their current rate of production.

This post should be its own sticky thread to Chronicle the never ending saga of futility that is the Edmonton Oilers. Brilliantly done.

The best part is they waived Aberg who has 11 goals already.
