It will be the same thing that drew Hossa to Pittsburgh/chicago and iggy to Colorado. That chance to be on an up and coming team that subjectively has a very large window to compete.
Name one other team that offers this AND sufficient cap space to pay him.
Tavares wants to win and get paid. No better to team to sign with than the flames.

Not a very good mic drop.
Vegas has 16m in cap space for next year with grabovski off the books, but Theodore, Miller, Marchessault, Neal and Perron are all in line for significant pay increases.
Theodore. $3-4m cap increase
Miller. $3-4m cap increase
Engelland. $0.5m cap increase
McNabb. $0.8m cap increase
Marchessault. $4.25m cap incresae
Neal. $1m+ pay increase
Perron. $1m+ pay increase
So basically, they have enough cap space to keep the team together. No room for any marquee signings like Tavares.

I hadn't seen this posted yet, but from a Montreal-based site. I have zero idea about the credibility or reputation as I've never heard of them before and I'm not familiar with the sports people on the east coast like David Pagnotta (I was just googling trade rumors) but I thought I'd pass along anyway.
https://awinninghabit.com/2018/02/10...ex-galchenyuk/
Basically there have been increased scouting between the teams including Bergevin himself at the Rangers/Flames game. Says the rumored players of Flames interest are Pacioretty or Galchenyuk, and that Habs are interested in Bennett, Janko, Fox, but primarily Janko. They also say there was something in play back in December and this could be talks heating back up.
Is there something with the Habs and those players (from both teams) that people would want to see here?

You say that as if keeping the team together is their #1 priority. If they have the opportunity to sign Tavares, you can be quite sure they'll trade assets to make room.
And frankly, I'm not taking your word for any of those alleged cap increases. The Knights have so much depth on their roster right now that it will be very difficult for any one player to hold them to ransom for a big raise.

Wouldn't mind Galchenyuk at all. Shaping up to be a consistent 45-55 point player. Only 24, same age as Janko. But I am such a huge fan of what Janko can be as early as next year.
Which begs the question, which skillset do the Flames need more in this window? Galchenyuks production or Jankos potential? I love Jankos skillset, think he's going to spend a good chance of time being one of the very best PKers in the league a couple years down the road. And he has the hands and shot to be a similar producing player as Galchenyuk.
I'd do Fox for Gally in a heartbeat though. If you can manage to keep the forward depth in tact, adding a 24 year old Galchenyuk to the Flames long term would be huge. Meanwhile the Flames still have a trio of stellar d prospects in the stable rearing to go.

I’m really quite excited to see what may be coming for the Flames. BT has not really ever traded a roster player, other than players he was going to lose anyway. Cool to see a real “hockey deal” and how he does.

Also, the Flames' window is not just this season, or the next couple seasons. They have just begun what should be a multiple year window. And not all players - on any team - are at their prime at the same time. It's okay to have guys that are still a work in progress.
Finding a winger for the 3rd line, and giving them a fresh start next year, could (and should) produce big dividends.

Okay but Johnny and Monahan are signed for 4 years and if they continue the way they are going and so does Chucky we will be in cap hell and thats if the two of them are willing to re-sign again. This current contract for Johnny is pretty much the best its going to get unless the cap goes up in that time significantly. We need to get good within the next 4 years imo. We sit around and wait on Bennett we could be looking at 8 and 10 mill contracts for those two plus Chucky and Hamilton and Ferland it will be hard to keep the band together. On the off chance we keep them all Gio will be over the hill.

Unless a crazy deal comes together at the deadline, the most likely trade time for Bennett is the offseason. Flames need a guy like Byron; PK and speed. Plug him in with backlund and Frolik which allows a guy like MT to be moved to the top line. When guys are healthy.
Gadreau Monahan Tkachuk
Byron Backlund Frolik
Bennett Jankowski Versteeg
4 line can roll the rest.

Yeah, Treliving made a mistake putting Byron on waivers but he's not going to fix it by now trading assets to get him back.

did anyone catch the Rene Bourque highlights from the Olympic Men's warm up game vs Sweden?
Scored a goal. 2 highlight reel savage, clean body cheques.
If he keeps that up I bet someone gives him a shot. He'd have to clear waivers, right?

So the leafs have to make a "move" of some sorts today.

Does TOR make a “move” today? Broad definition on move. IIRC, Soshnikov’s AHL stint now over. Need roster spot. Could demote Dermott/Kapanen but big game vs. TB tonite, not optimal. Trade Sosh? Martin? Leivo? Put someone on IR? Some other Lou Lamoriello/Brandon Pridham sorcery?

I'm sure someone will magically get hurt and put on the IR to buy them some time.

I hope the Flames trade for Leivo. Quality right shooting bottom 6 player. Maybe Tyler Wotherspoon could do the trick.

Absolutely would love Leivo. However you'd have to make decisions on Hathaway or Lazar, especially when Brouwer comes back.
