Horrible outing by Bassitt. He was fighting it all night. Defense bailed him out for as long as they could.
That's annoying. First really meaningful game against a team that has been horrible for a month and the Jays are laying an egg.

Schneider pulls Kikuchi when he's still throwing good stuff, then leaves Bassitt in way too long.
Just clueless.

With the strength of the Blue Jays bullpen, I’d rather 5-6 solid innings from Ryu or Kikuchi than the wildcard nature of Bassitt who could pitch a great game or totally blowup.

Normally I would choose err on the side of trusting your starter but Bassitt has not shown that he had good stuff right from the get go. He put the team in a hole in the biggest series of the season.

Yep. 5 awful innings from Bassit and Schneider keeps him out for the 6th. Very curious.
Thankfully the Rangers pen is next level awful so hopefully the Jays can get Cy Dunning out of the game and see what happens.

Ah ####. Tonight is not in the cards. Bad game by Bassitt. Need to win 2 of 3 and move on.

Time to put in a position player to pitch now.

Texas needs one more run.

Under the new guidelines, leading teams have to be up by 10 or more runs in the ninth inning in order to let a position player pitch while trailing teams can use a position player anytime it's down by eight or more runs. Position players are also allowed to pitch anytime in extra innings.

This is going well.
We barely beat minor league quality teams over the past few weeks. Now we play a major league team.

+3 innings....and now we're into the bullpen. It's unlikely, but a comeback win here would be a backbreaker for the Rangers.

Gotta play for the split now. Credit where credit is due the Rangers bats came to play. They made Bassitt work. But the Jays need to fight for a split with Scherzer on the mound tomorrow.

Could be he refused, could be he feels like he’s injured, could be mental illness.
What we know for sure, and I don’t think it matters much at this point but his season is done at any level. Basically start whatever mental and physical rehab that’s needed, work on likely losing weight and improving overall fitness and see what he’s got in the spring. Next spring will be his last shot to be a pro player.
