First round: everything is called.
Stanley cup finals: beheadings might get a two minute minor.

Can't say I agree with this.
The first round, depending on the series, can be the most vicious, nastiest series of the playoffs. Teams are usually, mostly, healthy for round 1 and the game changes come playoff time. By the finals, guys are held together with scotch tape and bubble gum.
Playoff hockey is playoff hockey.

I’d love to have Ferly back at a decent price. Might be too much though especially since Carolina will likely want a lot given the outcome of that trade.

I wonder if Ferland and the Canes couldn’t work out a wink wink deal where they sign him on July 1 and send him somewhere for assets at the deadline. Ferland would definitely fit on with the team and likely cause zero chemistry issues so he would be an ideal rental

Yes, the first round is typically quite nasty, and everything is called. Refs gotta ref.
By June they're tired of skating.

Have you forgotten what the Ducks got away with vs the Flames two years ago?
'Everything' is certainly not called in round 1.
Everything being called is what you see in preseason and the first 20-40 games of the regular season. I've yet to see a 'crackdown on interference' for example in the playoffs in any round.

Ferland would be the one guy I’d like to add. You’ve made a good point - he’s know and presumably liked by the team and management. Wouldn’t think he’d have a negative affect on chemistry.
He’d be able to play up and down the lineup. He’s demonstrated that at least for short periods he’s been a competent linemate with Johnny and Monny. He’d also be a great add to the 4th line playing with Ryan and Hathaway.
Could you imagine him and Bennett banging and crashing on the same line?

Using the SKATR Comparison Tool, I compare Kunitz's on-ice contribution to the on-ice contributions of members of our bottom 6 (I'm comparing the on-ice sections of the below charts):
DEREK RYAN vs CHRIS KUNITZ
https://public.tableau.com/shared/72...play_count=yes
MARK JANKOWSKI vs CHRIS KUNITZ
https://public.tableau.com/shared/63...play_count=yes
GARNET HATHAWAY vs CHRIS KUNITZ
https://public.tableau.com/shared/T9...play_count=yes
JAMES NEAL vs CHRIS KUNITZ
https://public.tableau.com/shared/SY...play_count=yes
As you can see, Kunitz' on-ice contributions to the Blackhawks are better than Derek Ryan's, Mark Jankowski's, Garnet Hathaway's and James Neal's on-ice contributions to the Flames.
Consequently, I think Kunitz would be a good way of upgrading the bottom 6. I guess it depends on what the cost is, but I don't imagine it would be much.

If Arizona falls out of the playoff race, I wonder what a goalie like Kuemper would cost to get. I've always thought he's a solid backup

I didn't expect much in that series from Calgary, what with GG and his G-crew having no ability whatsoever to adjust to anything. Why what happened? Did players get flying elbows to the face?

No thanks, I wouldn't take Kunitz even if he was free.
I'm not against advanced stats, but at some point you have to look at reality in terms of actual production.
He can barely make the lineup in 29th place Chicago. I don't think he'd fit on the 2nd most productive team in the league.

This is a completely unscientific analysis of just the straight count of power play opportunities: Since the start of the 2005-06 season, the league has seen an average of 3.71 power play opportunities per team, per game in the regular season. In the playoffs, that increases to 3.88.

This is a perfect example of why you don't make roster decisions based on stats. Kunitz has been terrible this year. Useless. Ask any Hawks fan - they would beg you to take him for any return whatsoever.
He is done. Watch him play.

Frolik has been more productive than Eberle. And he plays defense. And he is cheaper.

So your saying the exact same thing that I just wrote but you'll split hairs over .02ppg. The point is its lateral at best unless you know Frolik isn't coming back. We might as well keep Frolik unless its clear he doesnt want to be here and Eberle does. If its me I'm keeping Frolik im not burning assets..

Okay, thanks. I didn’t know that, and you’re right that I haven’t watched him play much this season, but it was just a suggestion.

Yeah Kunitz has been truly awful for Chicago. No point in bringing him in -- but thanks for contributing the suggestion.
If a decision is to be made with playoff experience in mind, it'd make far more sense to inquire about a guy like Carl Hagelin, who should be similarly cheap and has been there many times before. Two Cups. He's having a rough year but is still on the right side of 30 and is a pending UFA. Very speedy player.

Jenner, Ferland, Stone, Schenn
Would be the main guys I would be interested in giving a significant asset for, other then that I think it should be cheap depth adds hoping for a long run.
