Luckily the Flames paid the price Tanev was worth at the time (many like me thought it was an overpay). Tanev has been a 5-6M Dman for 4.5M. If we acquire Boeser for what he is being valued at today then we likely come out ahead like we did with Tanev

Boeser definitely poses a (potential) buy low opportunity.
I’m not overly familiar with Boeser, but his finishing ability certainly seems to be there. The fact that he’s also under contract for 2 (more) years strikes me as good thing.

His tenure so far as a Flame says otherwise. Half his point production last year and this year have been on the PP.

I'm not overly intrigued by boeser as a trade target for the flames.
I think they need a forward with the ability to skate the puck up the ice, hold onto it and make a play. Boeser strikes me more as a pure finisher.

A pure finisher is what we are looking for to skate opposite side of Huberdeau isn’t it?

We need someone who can play at pace. Nothing against Boeser but he's not able to bring foot speed which is what Hubereau was saying is lacking.

Do not think Huberdeau and Boeser would work together

We need someone that's good at zone entries.
Johnny had that, but it doesn't appear Huberdeau does.
Toffoli isn't fast but it doesn't really seem like Huberdeau's game revolves around beating guys with speed. I haven't noticed his line mates struggling to keep up.
I understand that he was very successful with Bennett and Duclaire last season, but is that because they were fast?

Boeser might give you a bit of an edge in Goalscoring over Toffoli but would subtract from the defensive game and maybe puck moving too. To me, you're no farther ahead. And as mentioned, we need speed.

Lots of talk about Boeser but seems a consensus that we don't need him since he is a slight improved Toffoli.
There's also talk about us being active in poking around. Question would be what would be good targets? I look at guys that might gel with Huberdeau in no particular order
Tyler Bertuzzi - (injured right now) Decent finisher
Jonathan Drouin - (injured right now...again) French connection although he also plays LW, has speed and creativity, just can't stay healthy
Andreas Athanasiou - speedy guy that can finish, similar to Duclair
Jesse Puljujarvi - speedy big body, needs a change of scenery and he's a north/south player (not likely would certainly need to be a three way trade if happens)
Tarasenko - a good finisher (if STL seems out of it, most likely would cost too much)
Not sure who else but those are guys I wouldn't mind "poking" about.

Remember last year how Tkachuk utilized Johnnys speed very effectively, I think of Huberdeau as a similar type of player. It is not that Huberdeau relies on speed to get past opponents, it is that he can utilize faster players better than others can

Tuevo Teravainen - Having a tough year in Carolina, wonder if he needs a change of scenery.

Anthony Duclair played very well with Huberdeau last year and had 31 goals. Florida is going to have cap constraints fitting him back in the lineup after he comes off LTIR.

Duclair had positive metrics across the board in terms of possession and scoring chances. In fact, he had a higher impact himself as a season average than with his most common linemates. With Huberdeau however, they most often than not possessed the puck and generated more chances than their opponents.
|
Duclair has a cap hit of $3 million until the end of the 2023 - 2024 season. There are obvious concerns, as he is returning from Achilles tendon surgery. I like the fit better than Boeser's $6 million cap hit, who may or may not be a fit with Huberdeau.

I said it before the season, and it still seems to be an issue. Toffoli and Huberdeau together won't work. I do believe that Toffoli would work well on the 2nd line with Kadri and Mangiapane.
I personally loved it the second Sutter put Ruzicka with Backlund and Coleman. Backlund and Coleman are tenacious and create chances. Both are good skaters. Ruzicka brings the skill and size to that line.
Problem, I just don't know if Dube can click with Lindholm and Huberdeau. I wouldn't give Dube away and I think he is too good to be on the 4th line.
If they Flames want to be a threat, they need a higher skilled Dillion Dube. This team needs speed more than anything with better skills than what Dube has.

Just needs better health, he’s been injured this year.
Still a core player for Carolina.

I promote from within before I make any trades for costly players signed beyond this season.

How aren’t your further ahead? He wouldn’t be replacing Toffoli. He’d be in addition to Toffoli.

You'd have to get really creative to fit both Boeser and Toffoli under the cap after this year.

Cap wise it makes no sense. I just didn’t follow the thought process that having both of them didn’t equal a deeper offence.
