That would be tampering. They may want him, but for sure there are no statements.

I suspect if we see Pelletier, Coronato, Wolf, Zary in a deal the Flames are getting a long term piece.
Pieces I would have interest in moving some high end prospects for:
Konecny
Dvorak
Gourde
Laine
Debrincat
Chychrun
I am sure there are more but I want a longer term piece of the prime assets are going out the door. Where it gets really messy is trying to make the cap work after this season

The Blackhawks recently said Dach isn’t untouchable, I wonder if he might be the right package to bundle future together for. I’d do Coronato+1st+2nd without blinking but could probably be persuaded to add from there.

Similar whispers about Taylor Hall and Calgary a couple years ago. Didn’t happen.
Flyers are a tire fire right now Johnny must really want to go home if that is the case. Maybe he does?
I still think NJ is the real threat

I like this list, particularly Konecny, Gourde, Chychrun. Reuniting Gourde and Coleman could payoff big. Flames were rumored to have had interest in Konecny at the 2015 draft, so it seems to reason that they like the player.
When it comes to Chychrun, I wonder if the Flames can do this with Hanifin being part of the return. He's still young, locked in for two more years after this one and can likely be flipped for an attractive futures based offer elsewhere if that is their preference. Would Hanifin, Zary, 1st get it done? Too much? Also acknowledging Friedman did pour cold water on the Flames interest in Chychrun/dealing picks prospects. Food for thought, though.

Obviously, but Lanny mentioned there have been comments from within the Flyers. If their fans are talking about this I’d like to hear where the rumor came from. It’s probably Orange Julius level

Couturier's big contract kicks in next season and they have a lot of money tied up into other players. I suppose they may be able to fit in Johnny but that team's kind of a mess.

The Ellis and Hayes contracts look absolutely horrible. I can kind of see why they would consider signing Gaudreau as they will try to make that disaster of a roster work come hell or high water because they really don't have a choice.

Especially since they need to get Hayes going, and would hope Gaudreau could help with that.
I could see them spending picks to offload JVR in the offseason, then throwing a pile of money at Gaudreau.

But, if you know he's leaving, shouldn't we do everything we can to try and win while the window is open? It snaps shut when he leaves.

This is precisely why I'd be much more interested in parting with valimaki+ in deadline acquisition than the first round pick.
Can't go to the draft this offseason having lost gaudreau and/or tkachuk and no first round pick in my opinion.

Taking a while to get to 5000

They talked about Gaudreau & the Flyers on The Marek Show. They keyed in on a comment during the Flyers presser where they noted a blank cheque (assume the GM said this to refer to free agency) and Marek said he immediately thought of Gaudreau. Friedman didn't fight it or mention Calgary standing in the way. Both seemed to think or at least infer its a possibility.
TL;DR: Flyers want to spend money, Gaudreau will be a UFA

That's what I would do if I was the GM and my boss gave me a mandate on trying to win now with the group. That said once you add a 7 year deal for Gaudreau you will be stuck with that group for years so it better work.

The Flyers set a franchise record in consecutive losses yesterday with their 13th straight. The Flyers won't be very appealing to Johnny when he compares them with his success on the Flames especially under Darryl's tutelage.

Yup they just showed they would be willing to spend picks to get rid of a bad deal (Gostisbehere - which really wasn't even bad).
Giroux could be gone. They probably try to move JVR (Arizona Coyotes come on down!) and one of Laughton or Lindblom.
And I think they go hard to try to re-unite Gaudreau with Hayes if he hits UFA.
This is where I would love to be a fly on the wall to know what Gaudreau's ask of the team is right now. $10M? $10.5M?

Giroux is a pending UFA right? I wonder if he's the "biggest rental out there" that Elliotte was talking about that doesn't want to play in Canada.

Pavelski...to me he would fit the bill too.
Maybe Hertl.

I'm pretty worried about the Flyers. They suck today, but they have a lot of key injuries. Gaudreau would be part of the re-tool. If Giroux goes (I'm sure that's likely) and, as mentioned, they can offload Van Riemsdyk, a Panarin level contract to Gaudreau isn't out of the realm of possibility. I've thought far too often "impossible to do because of the cap", then Vegas entered the league....
